Happy Christmas everyone! This is the time of year that many people start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. Once people finish Couch to 5k, many graduates decide that they’d like to build their distance and/or their run time from 30 minutes to 60 minutes or up to 10k. To help support any graduates with this goal, we’re going to start a group run through the Magic Plan or the Nike Rub Club 10k plan (your choice). Starting on January 1st, there’ll be a weekly post describing the runs and inviting you to share how it’s going for you. We’re going to be flexible and there’s no pressure to keep up with the schedule. Just like Couch to 5k, you can adapt to suit what’s best for you. The main thing I hope you’ll all get is loads of encouragement!

Perhaps you’d like to browse the plans and start thinking about which will work best for you.

The Magic Plan is detailed here…

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...

Three runs a week done by time or distance. Slower runners often prefer the time-based version. The advantage of this plan is there’s no need for commentary or much tech. It’s a purely paper based plan and it’s easy to follow if you have a way of tracking how far you’ve run such as strava or a smart watch. It’s super simple if you use the time based version-all you need is a regular watch for that!

Some people miss having a coach in their ear. If that’s you, maybe you’d enjoy the Nike Run Club app plan…

This plan is available on the Nike Run Club app. It offers five runs a week but we’d suggest choosing three or making a week last longer if you’re less than six months into your run journey. That means you can keep your rest days. The runs include easy runs, speed runs (so much fun!) and longer runs. There’s commentary available from Coach Bennett and others. It’s often very cheesy but if you can get on board with that, the advice is absolutely brilliant

Whichever plan you think is best for you, there’ll be support and camaraderie available. I’ve done both and enjoyed both!

So who is in? Look out for the first post on January 1st!

I used this plan in 2016 to get to 10k - great plan and love Ju-ju’s videos 😊 I need a plan to get back to more regular runs so I am IN! 👍😀 Thanks for organising this MissU

Fantastic! Great to have you on board! Juju’s plan is how I got to 10k the first time and it’s such a good one. Enjoy!

I’m in!! Excited to extend my 5k runs. I’m still so slow though but would rather extend the distance than speed up x

Hiya, thanks sooo much for this, just what I need after hobbling in and out of C25K.

Managed to get there in the end, running "some km" rather than 5, but can now manage at least 30 mins on every run. 💪 So proud of myself!

I've even invented my very own special programme : C2'S'K, or Couch to Some K, as I like to call it. Any Km is better than the couch! 😅

Looking forward to joining in the fun to keep me running throughout 2025 🎉

I absolutely love “Any km is better than the couch!” You are so right too-anything that means you can feel like you’re running regularly is brilliant. It’s so much easier to put your trainers on and go when you ran a day (or a few) ago compared with three weeks ago,

Great to have you on board!!

that’s brilliant! Have only just spotted this now. I’d happily sign up but am still flu-y! 🤧😷🤒💉

Such an annoying thing but good luck to all the team and runners. I’ll be joining in spirit this time around, to fully join some time later once I’m well again.

Brilliant idea!

Yes please I'm in. I find the motivation in Nike run club can be a bit cheesy but can suck it up! Ran this morning at 630 am NYD before I saw this (up for work!) - it was a struggle run as the neightbours had been up with fireworks

This is exactly what I was thinking I do prefer Steve Crams commentary on the other 5k app I wish Nike would get him to do the voicing !!, Rather than all the what would you like to do today stuff I may well turn the commentary off if it’s continuing like it was today!!.

well I’ve just done the first run of the 10K 8 week programme felt a little rusty after not running since NYE but did the 3km first run. To be honest I found Coach Bennett’s questions and think of a word stuff a little confusing whilst running, also with the warm up walk not included as I’m used to I thought when am I supposed to be running then realised that I should of been running and got to it after walking for 3 mins after pressing start!. I guess I will get used to it and see how tomorrow goes!. Anyways Ive started it now which at least is something !.

NRC don’t use warm ups on their ‘Recovery’ runs, so do your 5 minute warm up walk first.

With their ‘Speed’ runs they suggest that for the first few minutes you should be running slowly “to warm up”, then you can pause the app, do stretches, then resume the app and continue with the speed run.

I just stretch and do my warm up walk for both types of running to be honest.

CB does take a bit of getting used to! 😊

I'm in and I will start from tomorrow for first run. I will be following Ju-Ju's plan for the 2nd time and it will be based on distance covered. I will be running on treadmill.

Thanks for sharing this, it’s come at a time where I’ve been thinking what’s next? . Having completed the C25K and built up my time running I wasn’t sure whether 10k would be a too much of a stretch. But, I think, using the Nike app it will keep me on track. Let’s see where this takes me- literally 😂

I’m in! I’ll be doing a mix of NRC and the timed Plan 😊
