What was I thinking ? ๐Ÿค”

Thinking I am now a runner and cool, fit mum I finally persuade oldest gym lad son , all 6ft 3 of him to come on a run with me. I thought he would be so impressed. I had images of us running side by side... sun shinning, me chatting away, son looking at me with pride. What was I thinking ?? ๐Ÿ˜‚. He spent quite a bit of time looking backwards ( trying to spot me in the distance) and walking whilst he was waiting for me to catch him up. He eventually slowed down out of pity and jogged beside me which to me resembled a fast walk. His stride is just huge!!! He even ran in opposite direction at one point as I think he saw someone he knew. So, no more thinking for me for a while whilst I repair my burst mum bubble. On the plus side though my time was great for 6.5k and in 40 minutes too. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Ah Lexi6 Trying to catch my son was worth it. Maybe he will play chase with me again some day. ๐Ÿ˜€

Awww us Mums can be so hard on ourselves! He will have been proud of you, (far too cool to show it of course) not everyone's Mum can do 6.5k in 40 minutes! That's impressive - well done you!!

Heโ€™s very cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž and I think deep down heโ€™s quite impressed. Heโ€™s very lovely but I am biased. He tried to slow down but just couldnโ€™t work out how. Heโ€™s too used to charging round a rugby pitch at full pelt I think. He passed his driving theory test today too and just booked his driving test. I will never get him out again as he will be off in my car ๐Ÿš—

Congratulations on that time for 6.5k, however, I do think your son who probably can do a sub 40 minute 10K should have stayed with you for once through out the whole run. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ

I think my lovely boy has only one speed bless him. Heโ€™s still young and looked so awkward when he tried to slow down. Still growing too and hasnโ€™t quite grown into the length of himself yet. ๐Ÿ˜€

Aww Wimborne, but that was still an awesome time, so maybe some of your sonโ€™s speed osmosised into you (I know thatโ€™s not a word, but you know what I mean!)

I had similar with my daughter. It brings us down to earth with a bump a bit doesnโ€™t it?! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Wimborne profile image
Wimborneโ€ข in reply tocheekychipmunks

Love that .... osmosised will be my new word ๐Ÿ˜€. It was fab though even if I couldnโ€™t catch him. Next time I will just have to go faster ๐Ÿ’จ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Fantastic time, and while he may have been ahead of you rather than beside you, he was out there with you, which shows heโ€™s quietly proud! He may have a fast pace and a height advantage, but itโ€™s not every mum who can go from the couch to running over 6km in 40minutes.

Wimborne profile image
Wimborneโ€ข in reply toRazouski

Thanks lovely R. You are right. He must be ok with it as he wouldnโ€™t have come otherwise. I couldnโ€™t run last August and thereโ€™s me running through the streets chasing my son down. Canโ€™t catch him but will give it another try ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Š

Never work ( or run) with children or animals... Youth is a wonderful asset... ( or 4 legs).

Teaching small ones taught me never to attempt to keep up with them.. ever :)

My son in law runs with me occasionally.. and sounds to have the same height and stride of your son.. He just stays with me...:) I think my daughter gives him strict orders not to leave me:)

Be proud... you are a runner.. doing this for you...and your son... he will be proud too..may not demonstrate it..but he will :)

Thanks Oldfloss. You are so right. He is young and still growing too. Passed his theory test today so one happy lad. I am saying a tearful goodbye to my car once heโ€™s passed his test as I am sure I wonโ€™t see it again. X

A bittersweet experience. My son hasnโ€™t run with me but I have no doubt he would be ahead looking back.

How lovely that your son came out with you, even if he didnโ€™t linger. He will be proud of the fact that youโ€™ve made this change in your lifestyle but probably wonโ€™t realise how difficult that journey through c25k was.

UpTheStanley very kindly accompanied me when I first started c25k, and he was running backwards and running around cars to stay at my pace. It must have been so hard for him (and heโ€™s a few years older than me). Iโ€™m a bit quicker now and heโ€™s come to realise that slow is sometimes good and uses me as a pacemaker to slow him down on his journey to 10 miles.

Well done Wimborne we think youโ€™re doing great.

Wimborneโ€ข in reply toDexy5

Thank you Dexy5. Heโ€™s lovely and still growing into a young man. And you are right. He did come and we ran which is something I never thought weโ€™d do. But I am also creatively thinking of how I can catch him. Next time I am going to get him to run with a bag of maltesers. Every time I catch him I get one. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ. I bet I can run faster for chocolate ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wooooah though! That is a fantastic time for 6.5km! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Never run with people with longer legs than you, thatโ€™s my motto. But lovely that he came out with you; donโ€™t doubt his pride, not many lads get to go out for runs with their mums. ๐Ÿ˜˜

It is sweet bless him and heโ€™s lovely. Heโ€™s all just a tangle of boy limbs still. My youngest has passed me by too now so am surrounded by strapping boys x ๐Ÿ’—

You did brilliantly! Thatโ€™s a really decent time, Iโ€™m sure he loved that you and he went on a run together. You can structure something more positive for you both. Make it as hard for him as for you and heโ€™ll improve as well. He could do mid-run squats until you catch up, and exercises like sprint back to you and jog with, at each mile. Feel proud of bringing up such an athletic and considerate son ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ‘ My OH used to leave me for dust and I never got close enough to gasp at him to wait before heโ€™d clear off again - hence why I only ever tried running twice.

Ah that made me smile Equi-geek. I like your idea too.๐Ÿ˜Š. I also thought of getting him to run with a bag of maltesers. And I get one if I catch him. Bet I can run faster ๐Ÿ’จ for chocolate ๐Ÿซ. X

You did so well, a brilliant time too!

My son, v fit, v tallv fast etc, likes to run with me if he is at home (he travels the world). He practically walks whilst I run.... still we have fun.

But he is older (31), so is probably slightly more tuned in that I cannot keep up with him.

I think your boy has probably learned a lot from your outing and will probably have a different approach next time you run together . I also think he is quietly very proud of your achievements otherwise I doubt he would have agreed to go out with you. Enjoy ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Wimborneโ€ข in reply toMillsie-J

Milsie-j thank you. My boy is still a tangle of limbs and emotions but fast approaching being a young man. Heโ€™s lovely. I think he thought it was helping me bless him. I will work on his tuning ๐Ÿ˜€ for next time.

Fantastic time for 6.5k and Iโ€™m sure your son is very proud of you. He did at least stay with you for some of the time. Mine wonโ€™t come out with me - says runningโ€™s boring, but even if he did, Iโ€™m sure heโ€™d leave me behind (23 and very fit). Whenever Iโ€™ve skied with him, Iโ€™ve found him having a rest at the bottom of the slope and on the couple of occasions we went out in kayaks, he turned round and paddled back upstream! Be proud of how far youโ€™ve come ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Thank you Sandie. Heโ€™s late teens and still growing in every way. I have a younger one too and we are just in midst of full teenage boy years. And yet people ask me why I run alone ๐Ÿ˜‚. And itโ€™s strange. I have never ever Been skiing. Often thought of it but never tried.

Oh lucky you ๐Ÿ˜‚ Skiing is his absolute passion (convenient in Lincolnshire!) - I was 30 when I started and am still cautious but he has been skiing almost as long as heโ€™s been able to walk. One of those activities which needs total mindfulness!

Wimborne... you are amazing! That time is awesome! You most definitely are a cool, fit mum! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™Œ

I know how you feel... my lad is almost 10 & he can run so much faster than me! When we go out together heโ€™ll often go running off ahead... turn around, run back to me... & then carry on... this goes on & on... ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฉ

Love it tho! ... I bet your whole family are so proud of you ๐Ÿ’›
