Set out on this beautiful morning to do a long run. A fair amount of faffage on where to go took place, but I eventually picked a route alongside the river, so my dog could come with me and run off the lead. ๐
I left the house debating how far to actually run. I decided on 11k. Parked the car, fired up MMR and my Garmin, and my dog and I set off. All good, albeit really warm. Itโs a pretty tow path and there were a few dog walkers and people dressed for running (not running though). We exchanged pleasantries and I trotted along. I ate 3 Jelly Babies, one at 4k, one at 7k and one at 9k - but I lost the fourth one Iโd brought along! Denied, I love Jelly Babies! ๐ฉ
I had noticed the Garmin buzzes and the MMR lady werenโt in sync, but that often happens so I wasnโt that worried about it, however they seemed extra far out today! Garmin buzzed every 500m/km and MMR updated me every km, and I noticed they were soon over 500m apart! I ran until MMR said 11k (yay, longest ever run!), but when I glanced at my watch it said 11.83k, so I continued running until it buzzed 12k, then stopped. ๐
So whilst I was chuffed to bits to run my longest distance today, Iโm not 100% sure how far it was! Looking at the time though, I think MMR had a satellite issue somewhere along the way as it was way out (13 minutes!) on the time. So, my VRBs, Iโm pretty sure I ran a whole extra kilometre without planning on it! ๐๐๐
Strava agrees, and the auto MMR does too - it always shows my manual reading, and another which must be linked to Strava or Garmin - I have absolutely no idea! ๐ ๐
Whatever, I am claiming 12k today! For me thatโs mega! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐๐๐๐๐

I have Strava linked to Garmin so whenever I sync my watch to Garmin Connect it automatically syncs to Strava too. MMR I set up manually, but thereโs also an auto sync which I didnโt realise (hence the 2 different MMR times/distances). ๐
12k it is Cheeky ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ and I love that your Strava says โThis was consistent with your usual effortsโ! ๐! Youโre an amazing runner!! Well done you! โค๏ธ
Aww thanks Fab! Haha, yes I saw that too! My puff was totally fine as I was only pootling along, and I must say my legs felt strong up until the final 1.5k! Dead chuffed! ๐๐
It does it automatically when I sync to Garmin Connect. So does MMR, but separately to the manual MMR (hence the 2 MMR results.) I think Iโll dispense with the manual tracking. It just adds confusion! ๐
Yay!!!!! Whoop!!!! Drum roll ๐ฅ Cheeky thatโs so amazing ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ. Brilliant run. Amazing you. My god 12k. You are simply flying. Just so blinkin chuffed for you. Bet you are just glowing and so you should be. Enjoy and bask in the spotlight. That was one hell of a run. ๐๐๐
Thanks Wimborne, I canโt actually believe it! Iโm not sure how Iโd have fared if Iโd set out to do 12k! I half thought about just doing 5k when I first started. I do wish we could dispense with the first couple of kms - they always feel hideous!
Thing is, I wonโt be able to do 13k next week (donโt like that number), so eeek! ๐ ๐
Itโs so brilliant ๐๐๐. Ok so we need to beat the 13 demon thinking. So instead of using Km switch to miles or use your time as a guide. No way is the 13 demon standing in your way. Run that demon ๐ over smiling Cheeky.
I wish it was cheeky, I really do - I did my run this morning so I still have to wait a whole 24 hours ๐ณ I guess the weather's not set to go downhill before Wednesday, and I'll do a few strength exercises outside tomorrow, maybe in my jogging shoes, so if the urge to ๐โโ๏ธ strikes I can pootle off for maybe a short jog (my app won't know unless I tell it) ๐
๐๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ I really love how this community isn't just supportive in of itself, but I think it actually encourages you (not you cheeky, you generally) to be supportive. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say these C25k and bridge forums are somewhere the best side of humanity flourishes. Maybe I'll write a post just saying that sometime ๐ค
Well done CCM! That is a long run whichever one you go for... my mmr and strava used to be about 200 m apart on my old phone, on my newer one they are closer together. Strava was always the less favourable of the two options, so running that distance means that you have in all likelihood done a 12k!! Hip hip hooray!!!
Thatโs definitely a 12k run cheekychipmunks. I think Iโve read somewhere that if you have more than one GPS application going , they can sometimes confuse each other.
Well done on that leap in distance! I hope your dog enjoyed the run too.
Thanks for that tip Dexy. I didnโt realise that, but it makes sense. I wonโt use MMR any more. I guess itโs just habit from my pre-Garmin days. ๐
It was a lovely run and my dog had a blast! Lots of good smells, but luckily nothing worth rolling in today! ๐ ๐
Iโm aiming for 10 miles eventually. Not sure how many kms it is though! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Hahaha Wiggy, HM seems quite a long way off - nearly another 10k in fact! ๐ ๐ But Iโm aiming for 10 miles first and yes, then Iโll give it a go ....... crikey! Hadnโt even run for a minute this time last year! ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
12k, no question about it CC. Excellent run! Garmin Rules OK!! 10 miles will be in the bag before you know it. Hope to get out on a run tomorrow down here in sunny South Devon. I forgot to pack my watch charger so guess I will need to go to Plymouth to find a running shop! I would be lost without the technology! ๐คก
Thank you BC, just what I wanted to hear! Iโm aiming for 10 miles - Iโve decided I need a new badge. ๐ ๐
Hope you have a wonderful run in Devon. My favourite county (specifically Dartmoor โค๏ธ) - and fingers crossed you can find yourself a charger! I agree, tech, whilst annoying (like mine was) is compulsory! ๐
That is brilliant! Sounds like a lovely run. I did think it terribly sad about the lost jelly baby though! I was thinking I'd like to do 12km to celebrate 12 months since I started couch to 5km but when I looked in the diary and found that is mid june I immediately cancelled that plan...no way I will be waiting that long to do it hahaha!
Hahaha HS, thatโs my anniversary too - June 11th is when I did W1R1. ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐
Iโm not sure what to do for mine. It needs to be something significant - Iโd love to make it 10 miles, but the stars would all need to align perfectly!
I've done a couple of 10km and would have no problem going further. I've been working on hills and did my first cross country kind of run at the weekend which was amazing. Planning to get out on some of the lovely flat trails now that the weather is nicer so I think a longer run on easy terrain would be perfect! I tend to just go out there and see what I feel like once I'm running rather than any set plan...we'll see! 10 miles seems like a good target!
Oh believe me, Jonathan, having scrutinised both MMR results, and judging by all the comments on here, Iโm most certainly claiming it as 12k now! ๐๐
The erroneous MMR result had all my splits way too fast compared to Garmin. Iโm pretty sure it hit a satellite black spot and completely missed a kilometre somewhere near the beginning. It had one job! ๐ ๐๐
Apart from mild confusion over the distance, I felt amazing! It was surprisingly โeasyโ, just dwindling legs in the last couple of kms, but they kept going. ๐ No aches and pains later, just a lovely fatigue in my quads which meant theyโd worked hard for me. ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
Love this post! I feel your pain on being denied a fourth jolly baby and I love the comment from Strava - hilarious! Still finding 5k an effort at the mo so 12 is unthinkable yet. Great job
Thanks Rowers, youโll get there donโt worry! Iโm not fast, so I can pootle along happily. Jelly Babies help! Four would have been the perfect number on that run! ๐
Thanks Jay, Iโm claiming it as 12k definitely! My secret goal now is to make 10 miles on or around the anniversary of starting C25K on June 11th last year ....... less than a Parkrun more really helps. ๐๐๐
