My 20 year old son is back from uni and has been saying he wants to ‘get fit’ ‘join a gym’ etc. I see my own attitude in him so clearly, think about something for years and never get round to it 😂. So I suggested he start C25K and I’d do it with him. I was thinking it’d be a nice gentle run and I could maybe do a run on my own after, I mean, week 1, 8 slow 1 minute runs with 90 second breaks. Easy peasy!
Yeahhhh, hadn’t factored in the 40+ year age gap and the fact his legs are way longer than mine. Kept telling him to slow down, could barely keep up with his pace. Finally overtook him on run 7 of 8 😂😂.
He didn’t want to download the app so I took over Sarah Millican’s role, saying when to run and when to walk. I don’t have her lovely accent but never mind.
All in all it was a fantastic run, lovely to spend time bossing my son around, don’t get much opportunity for that these days. Oh, and I recorded my fastest ever pace, 5.50 min/km as opposed to my usual 7.5-8.5, must’ve been when I ran past him 😁

Wonderful! I'm sure you'll both enjoy it😀😀 ! My daughter runs the last week 1 run tomorrow and I'm running with her for company. I'm also intending to add my own loops to keep up my distance, but haven't managed time to do that yet 😊
I’m relieved that it’s my daughter who’s my new run buddy. If I was running with my son, I might be thinking differently! He’s nearly a foot taller than me, very sporty and would leave me trailing in his wake!
Only one of my sons is sporty and he doesn't live at home. The other two are both way taller than me so their slow is my fast. They both like walking so are reasonably fit. Middle son did week 6 run 2 with me (2 10 minute runs) and has never asked to come out again 😂. He may have run faster than me but he suffered for it next day. Hoping younger son will enjoy it enough to eventually want to run on his own once he's back at uni.
I don't have any daughters so am well used to scurrying beside the long legged men in my life, trying to keep up. Keeps me fit 😉
Oh, we’re in for some fun over the next few weeks I think! It should be great entertainment value, if nothing else! I shall follow you to cheer you both along 😊
Brilliant, glad you enjoyed it. I wish I could talk my son into running with me 😊Much like yours, he would definitely be faster than me by a long shot but I reckon my stamina would have me overtaking him too.
Tortoise and hare is right. I was very surprised (and happy) he decided to try. We’re supposed to be running again tomorrow, hope the weather improves by then!
