Happy new year, happy new year....

So good I’ve named it twice....

Hi my lovely family, I truly hope you all had a lovely Christmas and the new year shanannagins were good fun?!

I spent my new year in Northumberland...wow is all I can say...it’s a beautiful part of the country, I can’t believe I’ve never been before!! So, you know what that meant don’t you? Yes...tourist running...

We stayed in a beautiful Swiss style chalet, on a quiet country lane...got there on Sat, settled in and decided that Sunday we would go for a lovely long walk and obviously I would check out the running situation...routes, hills...and most important, the scenery...oh well, I wasn’t disappointed...turn left at the end of the muddy country lane and wow, Bamburgh Castle was just standing there, on top of the hill. We went down to the beach and I knew that the last run of the year was going to end up on the beach.

So, the morning after, New Year’s Eve, and also 9 years since I lost my beautiful Mum, I set off on the last run of 2018...and I took my Mum with me. It was freezing...the wind was biting my cheeks and ears unforgivably...but crikey, did I feel alive...I was having an absolute blast...I ran through the village where the butcher had just started making his pies, now I’m not a pie girl but they smelt like they’d be a pie to die for!

I knew where I wanted to end my run so I headed round the castle to the beach. Phew, running over the sand dunes was hard but it made me laugh, it was like off roading on legs! When I made it to the beach I was nearly on 5k so I carried on running until I reached the magic 5k...what a fantastic run that was....I want a holiday home by the sea where i can go and run like the wind...and it was extremely windy...I had one of those ‘glad to be alive runs’.

I found a sand dune to sit on when I’d finished....just me, the sand and the sea...and I sat remembering my Mum...yes, I had a tear but that’s allowed isn’t it? I thought about 2018 and that I have run a full year from start to finish now...flipping heck...who’d have thought it?! I love tourist running too, which I did quite a bit of in France...

I’ve been out this morning for my first run of 2019 and done a 5k, kids are off so can’t disappear for long....and again, it was freezing, but there’s just something about the cold that I love, and I think my missing mojo has come back after her short sightseeing break in London, I’m sure that’s where she was although nobody saw her, Hidden looked for her many times and I think she may have scared her running with fish in her pocket, so Thankyou to Jan for helping find my mojo when you had so much else to content with!!

So everyone, here’s to another complete year of running...let’s keep encouraging each other...I love reading everyone’s posts and I still compose my posts while I’m out running...and I take out with me what I read on here too...thank-you all for being so fab....happy 2019 xxxxx

Sounds a fantastic run!! That area of Northumberland is gorgeous and now I'm fancying planning a trip (few hours drive) I want to run along the sea this year!

Pleased your mojo is back . Not sure bout the fish tho! ?

Happy New year and happy running. I love this forum too and like u often think about it while running. 🏃😁

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toDeals1

Haha...the fish thing was that Hidden often runs to buy fresh fish when she’s in London so my mojo may have seen it as a weapon?! Lol...

I will definitely return to Bamburgh, everywhere is stunning round there x

Happy New Year to you too!!! Lovely pic and lovely post! At some point it got a bit

blurry here too, I must confess...

It is great that your mojo has decided to come back, great timing, being at such a wonderful place !! Indeed tourist running is awesome!! Who would have told me 4 months ago that I would be carrying my running kit and looking for a nice route before a trip 😳? Amazing what the bite of the running bug can do!!!

I wish you all the best in your new (running) Year!!

Thank you Whatnog , amazing isn't it? Once I've packed up for every one else, my trainers are the first thing I pack for myself!! If I forgot them then I'd just have to go buy new!! 😂

Happy New Year MummyCav. Sounds like you had a lovely break in Northumberland, and what an exhilarating run. I'm sure your mum loved it😚

Well done on your run today too...that mojo is firmly in place 😆 (it was cold today I bet😉) and you have a whole new year of running ahead of you...

Looking forward to sharing all of our new running adventures together in 2019.😊xxx

Happy new year darling Bev-lar!

Wow. What an amazing run, and a beautiful way to remember and honour your mum. I felt very emotional reading that. A very evocative write-up, too. I could almost smell the sea air in your post! I have never run by the sea, but I can imagine how magical it was. I too love running in the winter, I love the cold and the burning (face) cheeks! :-)

Running is such a lovely time to reflect. On both your running and your year = your year of running in fact. And what an amazing year of running you have had. Well done my lovely friend.

Thanks Sadie-runs , you’ve inspired so many people, me included...ahhhh, the sea air, it’s good for the soul...one of my Mums favourite sights was waves crashing on the beach, well she wouldn’t have been disappointed, you really ought to make running on the beach a priority, it’s a wonderful feeling, especially when the beach belongs to just you!! Happy new year special Sadie xx

Happy New Year to you!🎉 So very glad to hear your mojo has come slinking back from adventures elsewhere and is begging you to discover new places. 🤗Northumberland has been on my wish list for a while - even keener to visit now having read your lovely descriptive post.

I absolutely loved my beach runs in Wales last Oct and have pictures of my trainer clad feet at the sea edge pinned up at work to remind me why I run.

We spend New year in Dorset so I had a chocolate box pretty run of thatched cottages in the surrounding villages and some bracing hill walks. It was 2 years ago on Jan 5th that I lost my mum and the news that she was fading fast came whilst I was still in Dorset so when I'm alone on my new year runs she is often on my mind - not without a tear either at times! Thinking of you and hoping 2019 brings you much happiness. Xxx

Aaah Slinky, our mum's never really leave us though do they...That New Year run and bracing walks in Dorset were special, and will always bring her close. Treasure your memories, and a hug for tomorrow.😚

Warm wishes for a Happy New running year. 😊xxx

Ah, that's so kind of you! So true, our loved ones are always there and I don't think that original motivation to run because of her will ever go - 🤞🤞.

Wishing you good health, happiness & a fabulous running year! ☺️ Xx

If you can, you should try get to Northumberland if you ever can..I have printed off the pictures from the beach and stuck them on the fridge...

Dorset is lovely too, thatched cottages always fascinate me...and they're so pretty. Thank you for all your support this year too xxx

Thank you for your kind words and support too. If someone had said to me 2 years ago that I would be a runner and that this and a running forum would keep my physical & emotional well-being on an even (ish!) keel, I would've laughed myself silly! Keep glancing at the fridge door and smiling!! Xx

Happy new year MC!

Northumberland, funnily enough I've not been there, have travelled on my motorbike to most of the UK including Yorkshire dales, Lake district, Southern Scotland going up the west side to Inverness but not eastern side of Scotland (Edinburgh)so will have to make a point of visiting Northumberland as well when up that way, probably in the car now though..

So, well done with the running, I knew you'd find your mojo, it just went away for a break...😁

Oh MC what a beautiful run that sounded, and taking your mum along made it really really special. I often think of my dad when I’m out running. I lost him 5 years ago and miss him every day. Running is emotional isn’t it? ❤️

Here’s to many more beautiful runs this year! 🏃‍♀️👍🏃‍♀️❤️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply tocheekychipmunks

Thankyou cheekychipmunks ...yes, running is emotional, I can’t count the number of times I’ve run in the rain with my tears disguised as raindrops on my cheeks...(almost went into Julie Andrews mode then!) ...I find myself running into my memories quite often...some make me smile and some make me cry...but running gives me something and somewhere to deal with everything in my head. 5 years isn’t a long time...so I’m sure it still feels quite raw to you...get used to someone you love not being around takes time...time is the only healer. Your Dad will be looking down with a smile at his little girl running along ❤️❤️ Xx

Thank you, had a good Christmas and new year. It was my 72nd birthday on the 2nd of this month, and I was very good and modest restrained and didn’t announce it on here 😊

Your trip and your wonderful run sound amazing. How lovely to run for your mum. You are a very gifted writer. You should be writing a blog with a view to publishing a running book- you have a wonderful natural style xxx

Our trip was just the ticket, the highlight for the kids was the hot tub, where we were at the stroke of midnight...gazing at the stars...perfect.

I’ve often thought about writing a blog but not sure anyone would read it...?! Possibly only you!!! Thank you, you’re sooooo kind xxx

Oh well done, that’s fantastic! So so glad to hear your mojo is back. And running on the sand? That takes some doing! Happy new year my friend :)

Lovely post Mummycav, so glad you and your mojo are reunited. I read most of your post with a lump in my throat and a tear or two. I lost my Mum in 2010 and the New Year seems to be a time to reflect on who is no longer with us especially our lovely, special Mums. Here’s to a fab 2019 New Running Year for us all. X

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10

New Years has always been emotional to me...I don’t know why really, but then my Mum dstarted slipping away from me the night before and eventually she left me on New Year’s Eve morning so what was already an emotional day for me became unbearable...Mums are such special people & I strive to be the best Mum possible to my children and if I manage to be half the special person my Mum was then that will do for me. I’m sorry for your loss, it’s such a hard thing that you think you will never be able to come to terms with....hopefully running has helped you as much as it’s helped me, I just wish I’d found running earlier, it takes me to places in my thoughts I didn’t know were there. Wishing you a happy new year of sharing your runs with us all...big hug from me to you lexi6 xxx

Thank you Mummycav for your lovely reply, no wonder NYE is so emotional for you. When I lost my Mum I had arrived at her place to take her to hospital and found her on the floor and my CPR didn’t work, so I’ve always felt so guilty I couldn’t save her. Lost my dad 7 months later and lost the plot a bit. (actually a lot) Running has saved me really. I have just got back from a run, ran for nearly an hour! Never would have believed I could ever say that.

Hugs to you Xx

Glad your mojo was only on a short break and what a lovely place to get it back. We went to Northumberland in November and I got to run in Kielder forest which was gorgeous but running on the beach sounds fab.
