Its a run day, tis my birthday and I’m feeling lucky to be here to celebrate another one. Flippin freezing, but the sun is shining, chores done and I’m off. Usual track beside the railway line (yawns) but a little different because of thoughts of long awaited adventures beckoning. Its 4 years since I had the sad task of bringing my Mum and Dad’s ashes back to the UK where they and me were born, emigrating to NZ when I was 10. A promise of a pony, waiting in NZ, (like I had a choice to go) still waiting Mum? 🐴
Ashes scattered in the Lake District and the park opposite the house where my Mum was born and a promise I had made to Dad. His “Auld Country” is going to welcome him home very soon. He would have been back 2 years ago but positive test results and an urgent op meant two days prior to travel, the trip was cancelled. Two years ago, I couldn’t run 5k, never mind 10, so who’d have thought I’d be choosing accommodation near to parkruns 😂 I have 6 whole Saturdays in the UK to be a parkrun tourist and run alongside canals and through parks, thanks to reading all your vivid descriptions here I just can’t wait. The tailwalkers at Preston, Wilmslow and Enniskillen will have a new companion (you runners are so fast)
Missed 2 weeks of posts on here, no chance to catch up, don’t they disappear fast? Lovely, positive, you always do really well, descriptive post Oldfloss, good luck for Saturday. I did some more miles in the Strava run to the moon challenge, don’t think I’ll catch the leader on 690 miles 🤣 but thank you Bluedbirdrunner 💐 I am back on track even ran 4 days last week! Happy running everyone. X

Happy birthday Lexi! What lovely poignant memories to take with you on your chilly run today. ❤️🏃♀️
It’ll be lovely welcoming you back to the UK. Unfortunately too far for me to join you on any of those PR’s, but no doubt you’ll be posting pics! 😀🏃♀️👍
I’m good thanks, Deals, hope you’re doing ok too. Just had to stick to run/ walking intervals due to ankle issues, so find it easier to time those indoors on a treadmill. (I don’t bother with my Garmin or Strava for that.) I finally have permission to do one of this week’s 3 runs without walking bits, so will hopefully pop back up again! ❤️
Thanks MD, looking forward to it, perhaps not the plane journey though, could we live any further away? Still watching some movies onboard will be great. 👍
Thanks IP I’m so glad to be able to do this for Dad finally. I’ve just read your post and as I have my dentist appointment (gulp) on Monday, I might go visit your magical place too, it sounds very calming. 🙂
Happy birthday lexi, and I hope you have a wonderful trip to UK . It will bring back memories of your parents , but you can relax knowing that your Dad is back where he wanted to be. You have been through so much over the last few years and I’m glad that life is now treating you better. You are going to have so much fun with your parkruns. Maybe you should order yourself the new apricot parkrun tourist top, as a birthday present.
Thanks Jonathan, ran a 5km today to cover the birthday food and drinks but we’re off out again shortly so maybe another 5 on Sunday. 🎉🤢 5kms have become a little irregular since winter hit, but its a few more weeks before we leave and I don’t want to let the team down. Can’t wait for parkruns. 🏃♀️
Thanks Wimborne, the UK is still home, even after most of my adult years have been spent in NZ. Will make a lovely change to be in the same hemisphere.
