My morning run on the beach

Hi all

I'm on holiday in Tiree and thought I'd show you the beautiful beach where I'm about to do my morning run. The beach is always empty at this time of the day - later it is popular with windsurfers . Lovely firm sand - so an easy run when the wind is behind me.

Hope you are all enjoying the summer!

Thank you! We had rain, gales etc yesterday but it's much calmer today.

Looks fabulous. And it seems like you've picked the right time for a visit to the Hebrides ☀️ 👍

Thanks! It's a beautiful island and no midges so far!

Oooh that looks fab! That's me next week hopefully. Snow or blow but hopefully neither 💨🙂

It's good to run in pastures new

I found the beach running pulled on my lower back, so it works bits that others runs can't reach 🙂💪🏃‍♀️✔️

Hope you get to enjoy some lovely beach runs too! Careful with back though - definitely harder work running in sand.

That looks gorgeous - hope you enjoyed your run? (How could you not, on that beach!)

Looks absolutely beautiful. I'll be in Edinburgh during the festival for W9R3, graduation day so will have to get up early to avoid the crowds. Normally at home I run in the countryside so it'll be different!

Thank you, hoping the lovely weather lasts a few more days!

It sure is windy there, I'm not sure if it's still known as a high wind windsurfing place, it certainly was in the 80s when I lived in Scotland and was windsurfing regularly. I didn't go there but friends often did. These days I do it only on holiday, generally in warmer waters! 😄

Tiree is certainly windy, and still popular with wind surfers . I did have a paddle but wasn't tempted to swim - far too cold!

Very little beats the enjoyment from running upon a deserted beach, beneath broken clouds and sunshine. The fact you're on holiday makes it even better.

As I regularly run bare foot, the only question remains: did you attempt it shod or unshod?

I must admit, it didn't occur to me to run bare foot - the grass verge I had to cross to get down to the beach is popular with healthy, unconstipated sheep!

Having to negotiate such an obstacle, I certainly appreciate why you didn't opt to run bare foot upon the beach.

Still, I'm sure that your beach run was less enjoyable. How did the calves feel afterwards?

The beach was quite firm to run on, but I still found it slightly harder than running on footpaths/ roads. I think I compensated by running much more slowly!

Wow, that looks gorgeous. Hope you're having a grand time.

Beach running certainly can present a welcome change to the tarmac and concrete of roads and footpaths, in addition to being a little kinder upon the joints, even if the muscles feel as though they're being challenged in a different manner.
