Well done to everyone who braved parkrun this morning if your weather was anything like ours! Officially my most extreme one yet, and we had to run our B course because Santa’s Grotto had been set up down by the lake. We missed out on our one flat section and had to run the hill 3 times! 😫👍💪

Fortunately one of our lovely runners was running her 50th parkrun today and she brought along home made Mars Bar bars. Rude not to have one I thought. And rude not to have a second one seeing as how she offered. Yum! 😋 😋

My running buddy still had fun though, and now she’s curled up on the bed. I *think* she’s dried out 🤞

Happy running this weekend guys. Stay warm and dry. ❤️

Mm. That sound like a nice treat at the end! Hope you've warmed up now 🙂

Would it be shameful to say I had one of them before we ran ....... 😅😅

Actually, I would say that was strategic rather than shameful! Very well thought out strategy :D

Your dog looks adorable. There was a lady with a dog on my parkrun this morning. She had to stop and pick up a poop which she had to run with for a while, I guess you can't get a PB with a dog in tow !

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toSnuffy_T

Thanks Snuffy, she’s a good girl. ❤️ I’ve yet to need to stop for her at parkrun. I tend to get there early and let her run off the lead for a while first, and that usually works! 😀 And being a girl there’s not much sniffing either so she’s a good running buddy. ❤️🐕

Yay! Well done you! I love your running buddy, she’s lovely! Yep, ours wasn’t wet, but very cold with a biting side wind bbbrrrrrrr! ❄️ But hey, it’s parkrun.....why wouldn’t you? 💪🏃‍♀️👏👍

Exactly Madge, we take the rough with the smooth! I’ve even been talked into ‘doing the double’ on New Year’s Day and running the neighbouring one at 9am (very big 2.5k hill 😳) followed by ours at 10.30! What am I letting myself in for? 🤣

Madge50 profile image
Madge50Graduate10 in reply tocheekychipmunks

Oh yes, it’s just fab isn’t it, we did Xmas day and new year double for the first time last year, best start to the day! Loved it. We’ll be doing Xmas day and the double on New Year’s Day this time too.......ours are mostly flat.....thankfully.......I think I’d cry for a bit at the hill, but then you’ve only got to do it once......(that’s what I’d tell myself anyway 😂💪)

Mx

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toMadge50

Ooo Christmas Day too! I’m not sure we have one that day. Must find out!

I’m all psyched up for the hilly one now. It’s literally 2.5k up, 2.5k down, but I’m banking on there being quite a crowd so hopefully everyone will be going slowly up to begin with. I’m totally hooked on parkrun and I’d have massive FOMO if I didn’t do the double! ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🐕👍

Madge50 profile image

Check out the ‘christmas Compendium’ on the parkrun uk website, put ‘Christmas compendium’ in the search and you’ll see a list of all the parkruns that will be going ahead......😉🏃‍♀️🥂🎅.....there must be one near you, if there’s a NYD double going on......🤔

Ahhh there is a local-ish one on Christmas Day, but not one of my 2 closest. It doesn’t start until 9.30 and we’re going out for lunch. Boo, won’t have time. Never mind, will need to be content with the 29th, then 2 on the 1st! 😀

Well done for braving this rain and wind Cheeky! 🌨🌬

Isn't it strange though, if I was going out for a walk I would wait till the rain eased off, but I'm quite happy to run in it! Well, tbh , happy might be too strong a word! But the rain doesn't stop me🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toTartancat

Definitely right there TC. My dog would have had to wait for her walk if I wasn’t running! It was cold though, and even hot little me took a while to warm up. 🥶🏃‍♀️ I had to scrunch my fingers up in my gloves as they took nearly 2.5k to defrost! Felt great at the end though, nice and warm. 😀

Well done to you! Can you pass some of the running bug over the forum. I don't think that I have properly caught it. Not at all sure 3 runs per week will even happen over the next 2 or even 3 weeks. Did run delivering cards yesterday, but only took 21 minutes. I'll try, I'll promise. So many pulls on time. Well done again to you! 😊🐕🏅🎉🏃‍♀️🤸🏻‍♀️🎅🏻

I know, this time of year is bonkers isn’t it 61? I have to shift my runs around a bit this week, but I think I can just about manage them. Can’t wait for the days to start getting longer again .... not long now! 😀

Have a wonderful week whether you fit in some runs or not! 😀👍🏃‍♀️

Good run CC. Tough as old boots !! I like the mars bar dessert in particular 🤪All set to go for my 5k this morning when I got a call to say that the fire alarm at church was misbehaving. Result; run abandoned . It is 1c today and wind chill on top. Tomorrow is forecast to be much warmer.....maybe not a bad outcome!!⛄️🐌🐌

I admire anyone who ran this morning and survived the biblical wind and rain. I'm also in awe of anyone who runs with a dog (yours looks gorgeous) - I know I'd tangle myself up in the lead and face plant often! 🐕🏃‍♀️

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toSlinkymalinki

I must admit I’m cautious at the start of the run as there are so many human and dog legs in close proximity. No accidents yet .... but I don’t want to get complacent! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🐕🐕🏃🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🐕🐕🏃🏃

Lovely Doggo!! Been a bit of a crazy weather day today!! Well done for getting out there.

We thankfully didn’t get rain till after Parkrun had finished, but boy was it a cold wind! First time I’ve worn a fleece thermal top and fleece lined leggings, and I was still cold at the finish! 😂🤣😂

Well done getting out in it Cheeky! 😊❤️

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply tomountaindreamer

I know what you mean MD. 🥶🥶🥶 I ran in long leggings, a vest top with my thin running jacket, a fleece headband, buff and gloves and, very unusually for me I could have worn more and not been too hot. Looks way more benign this morning. Never mind! 😀

Runsome profile image
RunsomeGraduate10

Mars bars 😊 perfect for such a harsh day. that wind was extreme I had brain freeze from the off sea wind at parkrun. That hill of yours is like a familiar sparing partner and it hasn’t got the better of you yet. 👏👍😀

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toRunsome

I absolutely will not let the hill defeat me Runsome, although the week I ran it in a onesie was a mighty close call! Next weekend I’m going to run a scary 2.5k hill at a different parkrun - it’s 2.5k up, 2.5k down. I’ll be begging for my old familiar hill after that one! 😳🏃‍♀️😅

Runsome profile image
RunsomeGraduate10 in reply tocheekychipmunks

Wow You do pick them 2.5k uphill Its clear your the sort of person who doesn’t believe in can’t👍. if it snows perhaps a snowboard for the way back down🏂 . good luck with the parkrun hill and then perhaps your old hill will literally be a walk/Run in the park😀

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toRunsome

I know, I’m bonkers, but the reason I’m doing it is because I’ve agreed to do the double on New Years Day - the hilly one at 9am and my regular one at 10.30am. I thought it best to give the hilly one a trial run (slog!) next Saturday! And yes, a snowboard for downhill and how about a pack of huskies to pull me up! 😅

Runsome profile image
RunsomeGraduate10 in reply tocheekychipmunks

Wow bonkers is an understatement. Good on you👍 I think your running buddy 🐕 may hide if you pull a pair of roller skates out one week😀 well let us know how it goes I’m sure you’ll smash it💪😊

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toRunsome

Yes she will! 🐕😅🐕

I’ll definitely report back after the run. My friend says it’s fine - but she runs parkrun in around 24 minutes and has signed up for the London Marathon, plus she’s 10 years younger! Possibly in a different league to me?! 😳🏃‍♀️😅

Hi CatMo13, thanks so much! She’s a petite working Lab, only about 22kg. She’s quick and agile and loves to run with me, although her favourite thing in the world is to retrieve - balls, sticks, anything! She’s a huge hit at parkrun as she wears a little high viz when I volunteer so she looks the part! 🐕❤️🏃‍♀️🏃

I’ve signed up for 3 10k races this year, so plenty more running to be had. Hope you’re enjoying your running too. 😀
