I hope everyone is well. So sorry I have not been around much this week. I have had a crazy week in work and just could not face being in front of the PC or a device in the evenings. I didn't get out running either. I need to make up for it this week.
A group of us here are big parkrun fans. Obviously we can not do it anymore. We are all hoping that parkrun will start back up in 2021, fingers and toes crossed. So until parkrun returns, we take part on our own, in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning. We post after our run and let everyone know how we got on. The little run report can be done over a post virtual parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new). It can be run/walked on any route close to you which is 5K. Does not have to be done in a park, you can even do it on a treadmill. You can register on the parkrun website if you want and log your (not)parkrun.
Happy running, jogging and walking everyone and I look forward to reading the post (not)parkrun reports.

Good morning Damien. The pavements here are still covered in lots of snow which is now to me non runnable. So today I used the entrance to the local primary school which has been cleared and gritted. Not parkrun time 29.38. ππ
Yeah Iβm not on Social Media really other than this lovely Forum and enjoy sometimes breaking free and pretending that Iβm in the 80βs again. Especially after a day of being stuck on Excel spreadsheets and e-mails.
Hello Damienair, it sounds like youβve been very busy, so a good idea to get away from screens when you get the chance.
After a very cold week in which I stayed close home, me and UTS finally got out for our (not) parkrun yesterday. I have posted separately. It was still very cold but we survived. One advantage of the cold weather is that less people are out, so less slalom running to do.
This was my 57th (not) parkrun and came in at 34.13. The same for UTS but he doesnβt log them when he runs with me. Male pride maybe? π€·. I log any run of 5k.
Glad we chose the western foreshore - on the eastern foreshore the sea was crashing right over the path and covering the main road.
We returned home to central heating, toasted hot cross buns and cappuccinos. π
UTS was a bit disappointed in the time as I didnβt run at the pace he was trying to set, but that wind was taking my breath away. I am in charge of my run. π
Yes a bit early for hot cross buns but they start selling them as soon as Christmas is over.
Damien, youβre a superstar hosting this post each week and keeping us all together. Please donβt apologise for anything! ππ»
This morning I was very reluctant to even leave the house or even get up! This cold isnβt fun, and the wind is beyond a joke. My (not) PR route offers no shelter and I almost bailed.
But - I thought of my VRBs having to deal with snow and ice and told myself off roundly. Who am I to grizzle? So off I went, Flossie in tow, and headed out on my chilly 5k, round and round in 0.47k circles! I even capitulated and wore my woolly hat and extra thick gloves - and know what? It wasnβt too bad. Wind chill was -8 (-9 yesterday, so balmy!) and I trotted round in 36:18.
Job done, followed by yoga, a hot bath and a cinnamon swirl. So glad I went out - Iβd have been grumpy all day if I hadnβt! π
The roads and pavements are clear now but it is -3, wind chill -8.
But we wrapped up well and did our 5km (not)parkrun/ VRunClub before our customary second breakfast. 10008 steps as I came into the house.
.01 second slower than last Saturday.
This was the 100th run we have logged as a (not)parkrun. We have missed 3 Wednesday runs due to snow and ice and we both forgot to log a couple of mid-week runs (but not the same ones strangely! )
Hi Damien, I ran my 35th (not) parkrun on Friday because I got my first Covid 19 vaccination at the time I am usually running, the jag was painless, the nurse who gave me the jab told me I might have a sore arm later and feel a little shivery, so far no after effects whatsoever.
Hi Damienair and running friends. The snow and ice has disappeared from Bognor Regis now, but sadly the bitingly cold wind hasnβt!π₯ΆβοΈ I planned a route that gave me a bit of shelter on the way down to the seafront, which mostly workedπ Then I had the benefit of a tailwind along the promenade for a bit, which gave me a 5K (not) Parkrun on 31:36, which Iβm pleased with in those conditionsπ
Then it was just a small matter of a 2.2K jog back to the house!
Not ParkRun for me today was 33.38 so slower than last week. Legs were tired after a 34k week of running. I did run my last kilometre at 6.05. Letβs hope I donβt pay for that tomorrow π€£
Hi Damien and VRBs! It has been snowy and icy since Monday, so I hadnβt run since last weekβs (not) parkrun. However, I couldnβt let the side down, so, clad in winter leggings, long sleeved top, wind proof jacket, woolly hat and gloves I set out to brave -3 (feels like -10). The wind was biting but the roads are clear again. Strava stopped at 32:00 for 5.02km so I am going to claim that as my first sub 32 5k this year π Stay warm!
Aww... Thank you... I kinda needed that! Yest I sent an article about the woman who made the new 5k record, to a friend who is very fit but usually nice... And he said "Wow, you're almost as fast!" so I said I'll not run with you when we meet again! (after covid) and he said "Nooo... You can run and I will walk beside you"... And I know it was a joke and he's just a totally different level of fitness and all but I did feel kinda bad!! Anyway, I guess I have to remember it's only just over 3 months since I started running at all... So can't expect big things
Never compare yourself to anyone else. We are all different. A couple of years ago I worked so hard at trying to get faster. My first parkrun took me 39 minutes. Over a couple of years of hard training I managed to get down to 26 minutes. I thought I'd done really well. But I know a guy who could do it in 16 minutes. The nicest 5K's I've done were where I just ran for fun and forgot about pace or time. At the moment Id struggle to do it in 32 minutes. Running is personal. You do it for you. When the real parkrun returns you should try it out. You'll discover that you are faster than a lot of people and slower than a lot of people, but you'll have had a fantastic time.
Hi Damienair and virtual (NOT) park runners, Sorry to hear you've had a tough week with work. Everything thing seems a bit relentless at the moment doesn't it? Not surprised you didn't want to think about anything screen based in the evenings. You have taken the lead in setting up this group and your weekly post is the glue that holds it together and gets us "talking".We can all read each others posts and cheer/support each other once you get us started so no need for the apologies!
I had a very cold and windy run this morning-still don't understand how it can be blowing against me on the way out and the way back! Time for 5k was 31:08 .Happy with that after a week of daily runs(short ones!)
Hope you get"that running feeling" back soon.O Once you get out there you know you will want more.
Not to worry Damien - I remember weeks like that......
I had my Covid jab yesterday afternoon (hooray!), so just in case I did my (not) parkrun yesterday morning. I hadn't done an intervals session for a while so thought I would give it a try, starting by running along the top of the hill into the wind - glutton for punishment! The bonus is that you have the wind behind you on the return leg - score on the door 28.39.
I don't blame you. It's too much being in front of screens for any more than just the working day these days. You do need to go out there and get your heart rate up though, you know it makes sense (listen to me telling you off!! Sorry, too used to saying the same to the kittens!)π€ π
Talking of which, don't know how I did it but I got another PB today! Amazing what a decent night's sleep can do. According to Strava and my little spreadsheet I have dipped below 27 minutes but when I looked at my watch it said 27:06 so I'm going with that as that's how I judge my (not)parkrun times, just after it turns over from showing the 5k split. I'm more than happy with that as it is 7 seconds faster than my actual parkrun PB which is my biggest target. My threshold running seems to suit this freezing cold weather. I can only think it's recessive genes from my eastern European ancestry π€£
Not sure how long this streak will keep up. I have the vaccine on Tuesday (hooray!) so next weekend might be a bit muted.
Meanwhile, I have some news on the 27th Feb run which I'm going to put in a separate post on the Bridge...
Nothing to apologies for Damien. I totally get where you're coming from re screen time after work. There's still too much compacted snow and ice here in deepest Essex for me to risk a run - maybe if it thaws sufficiently tomorrow...So I can offer you the first 5k of my 6.14km slow walk across the frozen fields and back through the woods for me today. Time irrelevant...
I decided to walk my (not)parkrun today. The paths were icy and slushy. I speed walked as fast as I could whilst listening to a podcast. I really stepped it out. I did it in a time of 43:32. When I came home I had to have a shower, my t-shirt and top were ringing wet. Lovely warm shower and a sausage roll for lunch. I went out for another walk at 4 with Nicola and the 2 boys. Relaxing now watching the Rugby.
This is great, I've been doing (non) Park Runs for a while, but hadn't realised about this thread. No running for me this week unfortunately as we've had too much snow and ice here, but hopefully I'll be able to get out soon.
had a terrible run yesterday. Not been out for a week because of the blinking snow but have still exercised, but I felt like I had never run before! Lead legs, no energy, but tried to be positive, because Coach Bennett always says, there's no such thing as a bad run, just a different run! Still trying to convince myself!! Hope its a better one tomm, maybe a shorter distance, just couldn't believe the difference from only a week
My 6th (not)parkrun today. First run in 8 days due to ice, cold, niggles et al. I waited til today as there were patches of ice around, plus I had my Covid jab on Friday. Bit of a sore arm near the jab yesterday. Glad I waited til the afternoon as all the ice has now gone. Sub 45 minutes (just!) but pleased to be back running - 8 days is too long!!! So back on Bridge to 60 minutes next week.
Totally understandable! I haven't been running since Monday because we've had so much snow & ice lying around, but I managed to get out this afternoon now that the pavements are clearing. Jeezo, it was bloody horrible to start with! Icy wind in my face taking my breath away, horizontal freezing rain, the works! Nevertheless she persisted, and it turned out OK, once I turned away from the wind. Managed 5k in 36.9 minutes and trundled on to make it 6. Came home to glorious mince & tatties with doughballs, followed by raspberry fool, because I am a top athlete πππππ»ββοΈπ. Hello to all the VRBs - better days are coming!
Very well done and I must admit I donβt think Iβve ever had mince and tatties with dough balls but they sound yum. Perfect Winter nourishment Iβd say.
I went out yesterday for a run and it occurred to me that I havenβt run on a Saturday for a long time as I normally use it as a rest day before my Sunday longer run. It was a struggle as Iβm nursing a sore ankle but I got round in 35.17 which is a bit off the pace for me. Just glad to be out tbh and Iβve logged it as !Parkrun
