This time I’m talking temperatures. I prepared for my Sunday run by checking the forecast (what do I wear?). It told me 14 degrees - yes really - so I should go out sleeveless just like the summer right? However the brain told me ITS DECEMBER. I wore long sleeves so of course was 🥵. This morning it was 4 degrees so I wore the same as Sunday and this time saw the first frosts of my running career. You need to be flexible for this running malarkey!! I’m afraid I’m not doing so well on the flexibility of distance however and am still fixated on 5k or nothing but I’ve adopted Spotify 165-170 playlist and it suits me very well. I’ve also committed to running all winter as all my Christmas presents are on a running theme 😆. This time last year I’d never even contemplated running. Not even for a bus!! Think I’ll do a birthday parkrun on Saturday as that opportunity doesn’t come along every year. Happy cold weather running everyone.

Numbers. AGAIN!
Hi Syb, yes I've officially ditched the shorts now, I found an old pair of lightweight walking trousers at the back of my wardrobe and they’re fine for running. Also a very thin hi-viz jacket. I seem to go a little slower dressed like this but at least I can run 😀🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️
I’ve avoided showing my legs 😱 but I embraced Lycra from the start as I’m a pink blob when I’m done but not a pink drippy blob!! My top is lightweight but Christmas will bring more substantial layers. However I’ve just discovered I’m back on granny childcare from Monday so runs will have to fit in with the naps of a one year old!! Your slow is my fast I fear so all is relative!! 😆
It's so hard judging what to wear in this weather! But that telford_mike is a hardy soul - I've been in long leggings since October!
I’m still in cropped leggings and a short sleeved shirt with no jacket when I run. I get hot quickly and would rather suffer for the first couple of minutes and get ‘she’s just weird’ looks from people in their Arctic Expedition outfits!
I was toasty during my 8k this morning. I’ve only worn long thin sleeves once - oh and a onesie at parkrun where I almost died of heat! 🥵 🥵
Hi Sybilw, Well done on your cold weather running. I have started off some runs in gloves, but they have always needed mid run removal. My gloves have velcro straps, so I hook them into the belt hooks of my trousers. Yesterday I ran in a t-shirt and that was just right. I have been reading about both Decker and SaskAlliecat; they both run in Canada!! Their temperatures -19 degrees!!
And just to think that you are planning a birthday Parkrun! What a change a year brings. Have you taken part in many Parkruns? Happy Birthday you for Saturday 🎁🎂🎉.
I am also hoping to run in my Parkrun number two on Saturday, so I shall think of you on your celebration run. Will you go for a PB or more gentle run, I wonder? I chose not to run last Saturday morning as it was raining and thought that it would be more enjoyable to wait for a dry day for this second Parkrun. It seems to be taking me ages to reach my second, always some reason why not to take part. Not least trips away and visitors, now add weather to hat list. Happy Birthday again for Saturday and happy injury free running too! 🏃♀️😊
Thank you 61andtrying. I’ve only done 2 parkruns. My local one is quite tough (a hill that starts at what they call carnage corner) so I’ll take it easy. Worked out it’ll be 11 years before my birthday will fall on a Saturday again so I’ve got to go for it. With the best will in the world I doubt I’ll still be running then. 👵🏻 👵🏻 😂
Hey Sybil - take a look at this, hopefully will help...... you might start out cold, but as you know, you’ll be warm soon enough.
