It’s a very special time. I think I can justify new shoes as my current ones have got a fair number of miles on them.
So, do I order the same as I’ve got off the internet (advantage: don’t have to leave the house or talk to people) or do I go to the local running shop and see what they recommend?
I’m perfectly happy with what I’ve got (New Balance 860) and I’m usually a creature of habit but I suspect it might be good to get advice. Wondered what others do when it’s time to start thinking about more shoes.

Treat yourself you are now a proper runner, is there a cheaper hobby than this running ?
, I started in June in a cheap pair of running shoes, went in a proper running shop with gait analysis towards the end of C25K they did not have the prices on any of the shoes: don’t like them type of shops! A penny saved is a penny earned I came away, did a bit off research, a lot of conflicting info on line about gait analysis, some say it’s a load of rubbish, some say look at previous shoe wear, walk on a wet floor and look at tread, I did this and bought a 50 quid pair on line, been really pleased with them, but need a new pair and pondering doing the gait analysis, will be interesting to see if you hear results are the same, they usually charge £10 for analysis if you don’t buy shoes,
Did 9.3 km yesterday morning furthest yet lovely run in the winter sun, Hooked on this running, going to increase budget on next shoes to about 75 quid, sorry I have not really answered your questions but will be interested to see what more experienced runners post
I had gait analysis back in March after finishing C25K and got my current shoes. Previously I ran in £50 Asics Trail shoes from Go Outdoors, and I still use them for trails and when it’s frosty and I need more grip.
The place I went was quite good in that they asked my budget and only showed me shoes within that limit.
I might have to go back as I’m intrigued as to whether gait changes as you build strength and experience.
I had gait analysis because I've got flat feet and I know I overpronate. But if you are happy with your shoes and have never had any problems with your feet or legs, I would be tempted to stick with the same shoes. On the other hand.... you could treat yourself with gait analysis and see what they suggest. If you take your old shoes with you they can have a look at them and may well recommend the same/similar! Ha ha sorry I haven't answered your question either!
Thanks. Had gait analysis back in March when I got the current shoes but wondering if anything is likely to have changed. Had just finished C25K then so was still a very new runner. My legs must be much stronger now though my running form is probably not much changed.
I might get some more of what I’ve got if I can find them online (they’ve bright out a new model so might be able to find cheap) and then go for gait analysis too and get an extra pair. Can’t have too many pairs of shoes can you 😂
Ah if you've already had gait analysis and you are happy with your shoes. just look for the same ones cheaper online. Your gait is unlikely to have changed in a few months, or even years, unless you have some kind of injury (I should add I am no expert, just going by what others have said on here!). Save your pennies for some other running gear!
If you got your present ones after ga then you should be fine going for the same again. Just make sure it is the same version as the ones you already have as updated ones are tweaked - and the tweaks might not suit you. Just to say trail shoes are generally neutral as your body/ankles have to counteract the ground you’re on.
