Earphone Warning

Could it be classed as a sports injury to have to have the silicon cover removed from my ear.

Yesterday was really windy and as I came out of the shelter i thought it foolish to carry on running. I yanked out my earphone by the wire

It was only when I got home I realised the cover was missing and my ear felt odd.

I am now nervous about earphones. I only run with one in and tuck the other in my hat.

Can someone recommend something which stays in place whilst bobbing along but not got any detachable bits which my ear might again swallow

I feel pretty stupid at the moment.

I use AirPods. They have no detachable bits and they’re wireless.

Not sure if you have to have an iPhone though!!

Possibly I could add them to my Christmas wish list

Its amazing how quickly I have acquired

Running accessories.

Since I got ear/headphones many years ago I have always used over the head headphones and that was before I started running, those earphones which just go into your ear are the most annoying thing ever under the sun, unless I am sitting still, say on a car, bus or train I prefer over the head proper headphones.

Problem is I only ever plug one ear in to listen for traffic and cyclists

I have one iPhone earphone in. It doesn’t have any bits which could come off. I channel the sound to one ear only using MONO setting

Ewww I'd never thought of this before! Blimers did you have to have it removed medically from your ear? I use cheap wireless ones, so am not much help really 🙈 Hope someone can recommend something for you 😊

Yes I had to go to the doctors

He asked me if I wanted to keep it. Apparently children who have similar issues with Lego usually want to take it home.

Might have to run music free for awhile.

You lady have been running like the wind recently.

As I have not improved on speed now going for distance instead up to 8 but it's hard work.

I’ve had some Trekz Air bone conduction headphones for about six months now. They are quite pricey but they are great for being able to hear your surroundings and your music at the same time.

Only downside I’ve noticed is if you are by a constantly busy road you can’t hear your music very well but for anything else they work well.

Thank you I will check them out. This running lark was meant to be a cheap way to exercise but I always seem to be able to find something else I need?????

The wired ones are cheap I’ve managed with them for several years. They get on my wick at times but I can’t believe the stupid price of some of this gear

I like running with music so will find a solution but really nervous about earphones with bits that fall off.

Ooohh.... Poor u!!

I have some cheap ones, but the silicone bit is bigger and kind of hooks inside the top of my eat... So don't think could get stuck.

Mine were mid range blue tooth.

Entirely my fault as I shoved it in my ear quite tight to stop it falling out as trotting along. Just don't want others to make the same mistake

Always fall out of my 👂! But this loopy bit seems to help

I used to use in ear earbuds but did not like them as they kept falling out. I switched to some over the ear ones. The ones I have are I think called Marathon 2 by Linkwitz. They hi over the ear with a rubber covered wire and around the neck of the neck. Because they are not in the ear but over the ear they do still let outside notes in. I can for example have a conversation with a passerby without removing them. Only problem is they are dear prof not waterproof.

I've also found these great - here's the link

I've used them in light rain but not pouring

I have these ones too, they are great! Yes you can still have a conversation and hear other sounds around you. I ran with mine today in the wind and rain and they were fine. Very good value

Hoping Aftershokz are under the tree for me this Christmas. I find in-ear uncomfortable but more worryingly I almost went out in front of a car when crossing at a junction because I couldn’t hear.

Bone conduction headphones are definitely a good thing for safety. Feel much more comfortable running on country roads with them as you can always hear cars coming.

I only ever run with one ear piece on the road. Same reason as you near miss

Another vote for bone conduction! They're safer in traffic—and for me as a lone smallish woman running about the place by herself—and they're allowed in the vast majority of races too. They're my joint second favourite bit of running kit. First place goes to my legs.
