Hi all. A few weeks since I last posted as things have been very up and down with my running and my life! After my last post about Ellie, my horse, I went off to Amsterdam with my daughter for 5 days, taking my running gear with me, and failed to run even once the whole time I was away - despite the flatness of the city! I blame too much walking and beer and not enough discipline but to be fair it was half term! And I was on holiday! 😜
My knee, which had been a bit niggly beforehand, had begun to hurt whilst I was doing so much walking so when I came back I went and saw my Physio who massaged it and gave me some exercises to do before the race last Sunday. She also told me I could still run so I took it slowly and did as she suggested. It seemed to improve so Dobby and I were soon back out there but a week or so later Dobby got really ill too - it turns out she’s had meningitis and we were very close to losing her too but thankfully she is finally - after two weeks - on the mend again 😅. I was beginning to question what I had done in a previous life for a minute there! I can’t run with her until after New Year so I have had to get used to running without her which is odd - I miss her company 🐶.
I had planned the 10k race a while ago and was really looking forward to it - it was the Chilly 10k at Castle Combe in Wiltshire and it certainly lived up to its name! It was flipping freezing and my hands didn’t warm up until at least the 4th K! I think it was 2 degrees when we got there and about 5 when we left! I was quite warm by the end though - it was a flat, 3 lap circuit which I actually really enjoyed! I ran the whole way and, considering I’ve only run 10K once in my life I managed to do it in 59.32 (official time) which I am proper chuffed with - Garmin said 58.37 - happy with either! It was such a great feeling - the photo is a sweaty pic of me and my friend Anna who did it about a minute quicker than me.
Sadly my knee has started to play up again though so it’s back to the Physio on Monday and then prep for the Christmas Cracker 10K in December! 🎄⛄️
Honestly this running lark is properly addictive isn’t it??!! 💥🏃♀️🏃♀️❤️
Thanks for reading - and happy running my lovely VRBs 🏃 🏃♀️ Xx

Well Done on your superb 10k race Dizziesmum, what an excellent time. I hope your knee and Dobby are soon back to full health. we've signed up for the Christmas Cracker Challenge in December too, but as I entered us in June we are only doing 5k. There was no way I thought I'd be running 10k by December. Still, I think 5k will be enough for me in a santa suit. We pick them up next week and then I think I'll be getting the sewing machine out to make them fit! Ours is on the 9th, when is yours? 🎄⛄️
Hi Dexy - it’s on the 9th also! I think I’m just going to stick some tinsel in my hair or something though! We don’t have to do the whole Santa suit thing. Where is yours? We are in Weston Super Mare along the sea front. I’m sure you’ll smash your 5k - I’m kind of thinking maybe 5k would be enough for me at the moment! 😆 xx
Ours is Southsea Castle and along the seafront. It’s a fantastic spectacle with everyone dressed up and was my inspiration to start running as it looked so much fun. I’m sure you could swap to the 5k if you don’t feel up to 10k 🎅🏻🤶
My son was at Uni in Bristol and we visited him the weekend when the Santa Run was on (we were having lunch in the River Grille) It looked absolutely brilliant. And that was before I imagined I could ever do it myself! Mine’s with friends on 2nd December in Leicestershire.
Wow you’ve been put through it recently🐴🐶, but well done! 10K in under an hour is an amazing achievement🥳! Hopefully the knee will settle down. I found lots of walking and less running messed up my running legs during the last month but it’s now improving under the physio’s instructions 😗
Thanks so much Equi. It’s good to have a positive relationship with a Physio isn’t it? I am so glad to have found the one I have. She’s brilliant - I used to be her form tutor at school so I like to claim some input into her ambition haha 😆. Glad you are on the mend too.
Wow! Congratulations on the sub 60 10k. That’s a huge milestone run whichever time you go off.
5 days away with my daughter, I’d probably leave the running shoes at home... these times are very precious and beer had to be drunk too! A break from everything else is good, so yeah why not running too?
You have a good physio there, many stop us doing anything until we’re full healed, fair play to her.
Dobby’s next run will be special too, bet she can’t wait! New year is only about 5 weeks away... and time just flies by.
Plenty of time to have the knee calm down again in time for the next 10k. Hopefully it’ll be pain free for the day and if not soon after.
That’s such a lovely reply UNM. Thank you so much - you’ve made me cry 😢. You have said such lovely things 🙏. You are right about spending time with important people - my daughter is nearly 25 so the fact that she asked me to go away with her is great - not all kids want to spend time with their parents no matter what age they are! Hopefully the knee will be fine by the 9th - plenty of time as you say - fingers crossed.
I do feel like things are looking up a bit and it is nearly Christmas so there’s plenty to look forward to! Xx
Well done! So glad Dobby is on the mend! The runs sound great! Was supposed to be doing a Santa run on Saturday but it's cancelled due to lack of interest. So sad 😥
Thanks Ang. What a shame they’ve cancelled your run - are there any others locally you could do? I think the atmosphere is meant to be really nice on the Christmas runs. Or you could just don a Santa suit and do a quick 5k on your own! That would make people confused 😂 xx
Hello Dizzysmum17, I am not surprised that you are proper chuffed! Brilliant running! Well done you! And Anna too! 🍾🥂🏅👏🏻😊🎉👍🏃♀️🤸♀️🏃♀️🤸♀️🏃♀️🤸♀️ Congratulations to you both! I do hope that Dobby is soon well, sounds like she has done amazingly to pull through, so she will need a while to be become fit enough to become your running partner again. I do hope that your physio appointment goes well and your knee is soon pain free.
Thank you 61 (and a bit 😂!). She will definitely need a few weeks to get her fitness back up but I’m sure when she’s better she’ll be raring to go! Fingers crossed for the knee - I’ll try and keep you all updated. Xx
Brilliant time Dizzysmum! 😃👏🏻👏🏻 Sorry to hear what’s been wrong with Dobby, but great to hear you’ve not lost her, and you will be running together again when she’s fully recovered ❤️❤️❤️
