After last weekend’s GSR I’ve needed to rest this week from running. I had a very short gentle swim on Monday to get moving, then Wednesday was still a relaxed paced swim for a mile, and I incorporated 3 x 100m sprints in yesterday’s swim. And felt tired. The legs still felt tired too.
But I was gagging to get out running this morning in this beautiful cool air. Great chance to test the black winter leggings with frost on the ground. Sported my new grey GSR ‘finishers’ t-shirt and topped off with my black runners jacket - I could almost be mistaken for a serious runner 🤣 I waited for the frost to clear from the car windscreen and set off. Then realised I’d forgotten my barcode 🤦🏼♀️ but wasn’t too worried as I had no intention of going quickly today.
Stood with the 45min pacer, Paul, before the start happy chat about how things were going while I set up my watch to match the start hooter. Off we go....
Jogged the first bit behind the 40min pacer, nice and regular.... hmmmm.... bit slow.... I’ll go on a bit.... now past some walkers.... then past a few more.... and I find a chap who clearly knew what he was doing but running with another lady. He had fab cadence and was landing lightly so I tucked in behind him and hoped I could stay the pace up the incline at the end of the lap. I know it was a bit faster than I usually do but I hung in there - so pleased - and was looking forward to the second lap.
“thanks then, see you later” said his running partner - who then stopped! He said ‘Bye’ and then shot off on the second lap. Aaaarrgghh! Right. Don’t panic. Just keep going. Suddenly I could feel the fatigue still in the biceps femorus I originally discovered a few weeks ago. Then my Bluetooth earbuds died so no music to keep the beat. Tried to work with it and keep the same pace as the first lap. Km3 was 7:04, km4 7:00 and km5 7:01 😁👍
So... not quite the gentle trot round I had intended 🤣 shame I forgot my barcode because this would definitely be a PB. Next week I’m lining up with the 35 minute pacer and 🤞🏻
Hope everyone has super runs this weekend!

Well done Equi, sounds like a good run to me and you know you did it and it counts even without barcode 😊 good luck next week we will be cheering you on 👍🏻😊🙌
Oooooh ........nice work Equi!! Love it!! Congratulations to you!! That is a super run!! Especially after quite a bit of swimming this week! Those legs are pretty powerful! You’re a star!! 💫 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽😍❤️
You’ve done really well Equi and there’s nothing I’ve seen to shift, but I certainly do understand it’s the personal view that counts on the inside. I feel the same. You’re doing brilliantly!! 😍🤩❤️
Well done Equi-geek , we all know that would’ve been a perfect PB too, so looking forward to hearing the whoop whoop of a barcode recorded one next time 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻🏃🏼♀️
I volunteered at our parkrun today for the first time - oooh it was cold, quite the difference from last Sunday! Spotted a lady wearing the 2018 GSR t-shirt. I'm hoping to go for my first run since GSR tomorrow, Thinking a really slow 10K if I can, but it may turn out to be much shorter!
Thanks! Great idea about the Freerun My legs are still feeling it - even more so now - so I'm super impressed by anyone that can get out and do 10k on their own - best of luck!
Don't be impressed yer! It hasn't happened My legs don't seem to be at all tired - must be all the walking I did at GSR (well, it wasn't that much to be fair but it's all I seem to remember about the day, the memory of the first 10K which was actually a PB, with no walking seems to have been overwritten in my memory bank) - but then I haven't tried them out yet. The two blisters on my toes are the reason I haven't made any attempt to run since Sunday. I will just see how tomorrow goes, no pressure
And they did it! The legs I mean. 10k along the canal which is becoming my 'happy place'. So cold/wet/windy compared to last Sunday. Turned out to be my second fastest 10k - fastest being GSR - so I definitely hadn't stretched my legs last week, however tired I thought I was at the time 😀
Well done Equi-geek , I wondered when you’d be able to get running again. Brilliant that you could go out in your new shirt - do post a picture of it.
A while ago we did ‘forgot the barcode’ , and UpTheStanley ran home after he’d done his run to pick them up and got back before TailChaser. We then ordered the set of 1 credit card size plastic and 3 small ones. We’ve laced a small one onto our shoes so we have one in case of emergency, but it also serves as a reminder to put the bigger one in the pocket. You can keep one in your glove box too if you drive to parkrun.
Thanks Dexy5, I have a wristband - just forgot to put it on 🙄 but I’ll put the paper ones in the car - good idea! I’ll get a pic of the shirt for next time 😁👍 😘
Sounds like a great run, EG. Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃❤️🏃♀️You definitely deserved a few extra rest days from running after the GSR!
I’m impressed you seem to have so many pacers at your Parkrun. We rarely seem to have any. Today there was one - a 20min pacer!!! (Don’t think I’ll ever be requiring him to help pace me! 😂😂😂)
We are very lucky- it can be a bit hit and miss sometimes with the pacing, but there are plenty of people that share the roles. I won’t need a 20minute pacer for, like, ever! 🤣
Well done you! If it’s on Strava/Mapmyrun or whatever programme you use then it counts - and if it’s not then it still counts! I laminated my bar code and keep it in my phone case. Xx
