Well I've come up north for a few days, and I'm staying near Berwick tonight. When I went exploring earlier the coastal path looked so inviting (ie, flat) that I just had to give it a go. So I got my togs on and off I went.
My first thought was that you guys who live near the coast have got it easy! Flat paths, lovely sea breeze to cool you down, gorgeous views with just the sound of gulls for company - perfect.
Then I turned round..... and that cooling breeze suddenly seemed like a solid force that almost stopped me in my tracks! And although hills are hard work, where there's an up there's also a down, which is where I'm used to catching my breath. Seems I need to practice pacing myself!
So hat's off to you seasiders (if the sea breeze hasn't already blown your hat away). I thought you had it easy but it seems you have your own set of hurdles to overcome , so from now on you have my utmost respect๐

It's not all plain sailing, so to speak regarding runs at the coast. I live inland but graduated my run 3 of week 9 at the coast which is about 25 miles away. The wind can be stronger than inland but I do agree that during the summer the sea breeze will cool a ๐ down a good bit. Love that photo Tartancat, it reminds me of the many happy times๐ I went to Berwick on Tweed with my wife and children during the 1980's when we went walks along that same path. ๐
You are so right tartancat. Our parkrun goes 2.5k east along the prom and 2.5k back again. The wind mainly blows from the west and it can make that 2nd half so difficult. Those doing the Great South Run in October will be praying for light winds. We were grateful for a cooling breeze this summer though.
Great pic, looks like a nice place to run! I live in a hilly spot and always hated the hills, until I went to run in an event down in our local town last week. It was dead flat - and I really missed the hills! No change of pace, no looking forward to getting my breath back on a downhill stretch, just monotonous plodding. Guess I learned to love the hills.
