My longest run

Hi all, Iโ€™ve not been on here for a while, though I have been watching what a lot of you have been getting up to! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ

This morning was my longest run leading up to the Great North Run in a couple of weeks. I was up early so as to have breakfast before the run....I always try to give it a couple of hours to digest.

I set off donning my new Camelback vest, I dehydrated a bit on my last long run so wasnโ€™t going to take any chances. It felt comfortable enough and after a couple of Kms forgot it was there.

The first 3k was familiar running territory for me but, upon turning into Cassington Road towards Bladon, I was faced with a straight very undulating road..... funny, you donโ€™t notice it when youโ€™re driving! It was very challenging for me cos I donโ€™t do hills.... must do some Hill repeats next week ๐Ÿ˜Š

I got up to Hanborough Road still feeling good and hitting the 6k mark. I ran through Long Hanborough, another undulating road which Iโ€™d not noticed when driving ๐Ÿ™„

As I approached Cuckoo Lane, such a quaint name, I found I needed a comfort break, I get caught short a lot since my Prostatectomy, not a problem when youโ€™re in the countryside but the GNR is on pretty urban roads so Iโ€™m hoping thereโ€™ll be potaloos along the route...thatโ€™s another story!

I felt really good plodding along Cuckoo Lane, thatโ€™s until I hit the 12k mark, after this the glutes started to tighten up and I found myself struggling a bit... it was a psychological relief when I reached the A40 and the final stretch home made even more comfortable when it started to rain.... luvvly jubbly ๐Ÿค—

I got a bit of a spring in my steps for the final 2k home.... what a relief, just shy of 11mls covered in, what's for me, a respectable time! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Next long run report, the Great North Run.... bring it on ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿค—

Happy running folks ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thatโ€™s a great run Ted! And you ran a big circle around my sister in lawโ€s house ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. Cuckoo lane is a bit tight in places if thereโ€™s a car coming. Iโ€™ve had to dive up the side of it once to miss a car. Good luck in the GNR!!

Thanks Brian, I know what you mean being tight in places on Cuckoo Lane, I had to get out of the way of a hgv at one point ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Nice area to run in, and 11miles - wow! I donโ€™t envy you having to work around the A40, but you were probably faster than the traffic anyway๐Ÿคฃ

Brilliant run and a cracking pace, Ted - wow! Not long to go to the GNR now - all the training you've put in over the past months will pay off and I'm sure it will be a fantastic day to remember (with plenty of loos en route). Inspired by you and Langley-Loper, I've signed up for the Brighton HM in February; I've still not managed to go further than 10k yet, but hoping to ramp up the distances when it gets a bit cooler. Good luck and enjoy the GNR - keep us posted x

Thanks Angela and good to hear from you ๐Ÿ˜Š Youโ€™ll be OK on the longer distances Iโ€™m sure, simple case of pacing yourself! Iโ€™ve be toying with the Brighton Half, lovely running along the promenade plus a daughter lives there ๐Ÿค—

Take care ๐Ÿ˜˜

My daughter lives in Hove; maybe see you there in February?! I've always fancied running along the prom. Are you fund-raising at the GNR? Can't find your page anywhere - could you post up the link, please? x

I have done the half twice only one real hill up to Roedean to wave at the posg girls. It was hard last year because beast of the east had just arrived.

There is always Bright10 in October same distance as Great North.

I am doing that and the Great South in October as well as Bright 10 just 2 weeks apart.

Hi Bluebird - it's lovely to hear from you. Yes, I'm working on a HM training plan to fit in with work, etc., at the moment. I must be slightly mad - it will probably be snowing in February :) x
