The cooler weather meant a later start and a bit of a lie-inπ€π. Usual route down the old railway line - so pleasant to run in a refreshing drizzle. I am gradually extending my route and decided that I might try to get to the coast today. The trail ends and for the next part of the route Squiggy is back on the lead and we head off along narrow lanes (including a steep hill) to a small, pretty village. On through the village past beautiful thatched cottages and on down the lanes. Eventually we get to the beach (6.5k) and stop for a photo and short breather before setting off on the return journey. I take a slightly different route back in order to extend the distance. A bit of a twinge in my right leg at around 10k so a brief stop to have a stretch, the off again. Feeling good π. Trotted on at a nice steady pace down the old railway line. Back to town, across the recreation ground and then a little detour around the houses......and home. 15k!! Very pleased with that π and what a good doggie πΆπΎ
Sunday long run - and it was one of my longest! - Bridge to 10K
Sunday long run - and it was one of my longest!
Wow. Well done to you and Squiggy. Hope it wasnβt uphill all the way back from the coast.
Thanks Stephen, we both really enjoyed the run. Yes, it is uphill for some of the way back from the coast but then back to our flat old railway line!
Love old rail lines. Apparently trains canβt do more than a 6% grade or something. Maybe Iβm a train... π
Yes, lots of old lines have been turned into fantastic walking/running/cycling routes haven't they.
The heritage steam railway line runs parallel to the old line that we run on. My hubby works on the footplate, I will ask him about the gradients. There are definitely a few hilly parts on the route - lots of shovelling of coal!
Will await the definitive word with interest. Iβm remembering vaguely from a trip a few years ago, so ready to be informed!
I love how you take Squiggy on all your long runs SS. πβ€οΈπββοΈ I tend to leave Flossie at home for runs longer than say 6-7k unless she can run off the lead for its entirety.
I bet he loved it, and what a fantastic distance for you. Youβre almost at your next badge - 10 miles! Looking forward to hearing when that happens. πππββοΈπ
I love that you have Flossie... it means I get runs with you as well as my own... woof woof !
Iβm hoping you can meet Flossie before too long Floss! Are you coming to the Stratford VRB meetup in November? π€πππββοΈπββοΈ
Yes, cheekychipmunks he absolutely loves running!! Being a working type Springer he just keeps on going, on the way back he was off lead again and running full speed after squirrels! A stream runs parallel to the old railway line so he dashes in for a drink when he needs it.
What a a super run for you and Squiggy, you are finding so many great places to run. It looks absolutely beautiful
Sounds lovely skysue16 ...and what a great distance?! Good old squiggy...my little dog would be shattered half way round! I like a long run on a Sunday x
Something special about a long Sunday run I think for me it is because it is the only day when I don't have any commitments. A day for hubby and I to enjoy together. We both had a Sunday run and later went for a stroll by the coast
Brilliant! Well done to you both! Sounds a lovely route ππ»π
Not long till you and Squiggey get a new shiny badge Skysue. Well done to you both.
Thats a super distance Sue, Well done yoy and Squiggy!π
Having the coast as your destination must be a great motivator, that steep hill thoughπ₯...
I hope your knee is ok, I did a bit of strenghening on mine after a twinge, and it seems to have worked.
I hope you wrote your name in that sand! πxxx
