Sunday long run - and it was one of my longest!

The cooler weather meant a later start and a bit of a lie-inπŸ’€πŸ˜Š. Usual route down the old railway line - so pleasant to run in a refreshing drizzle. I am gradually extending my route and decided that I might try to get to the coast today. The trail ends and for the next part of the route Squiggy is back on the lead and we head off along narrow lanes (including a steep hill) to a small, pretty village. On through the village past beautiful thatched cottages and on down the lanes. Eventually we get to the beach (6.5k) and stop for a photo and short breather before setting off on the return journey. I take a slightly different route back in order to extend the distance. A bit of a twinge in my right leg at around 10k so a brief stop to have a stretch, the off again. Feeling good 😊. Trotted on at a nice steady pace down the old railway line. Back to town, across the recreation ground and then a little detour around the houses......and home. 15k!! Very pleased with that πŸ˜€ and what a good doggie 🐢🐾

Wow. Well done to you and Squiggy. Hope it wasn’t uphill all the way back from the coast.

Thanks Stephen, we both really enjoyed the run. Yes, it is uphill for some of the way back from the coast but then back to our flat old railway line!

Love old rail lines. Apparently trains can’t do more than a 6% grade or something. Maybe I’m a train... πŸš‚

Yes, lots of old lines have been turned into fantastic walking/running/cycling routes haven't they.

The heritage steam railway line runs parallel to the old line that we run on. My hubby works on the footplate, I will ask him about the gradients. There are definitely a few hilly parts on the route - lots of shovelling of coal! ;)

Will await the definitive word with interest. I’m remembering vaguely from a trip a few years ago, so ready to be informed!

Apparently on our line the steepest gradient is 1/80 but some are steeper. I don't really understand the maths πŸ˜‚

Thank you. I will check with the mathematical grandson. πŸ€”πŸ˜Š

I love how you take Squiggy on all your long runs SS. πŸ•β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I tend to leave Flossie at home for runs longer than say 6-7k unless she can run off the lead for its entirety.

I bet he loved it, and what a fantastic distance for you. You’re almost at your next badge - 10 miles! Looking forward to hearing when that happens. πŸ‘πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ•

I love that you have Flossie... it means I get runs with you as well as my own... woof woof !

I’m hoping you can meet Flossie before too long Floss! Are you coming to the Stratford VRB meetup in November? πŸ€žπŸ˜€πŸ•πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Sadly not now...

I think Flossie and I would get on :) x

Perhaps we can have another Isabel Trail meet-up after Stratford? Probably not much difference in distance for you cheeky?

That sounds hopeful TC. πŸ‘πŸ˜€

Yes, cheekychipmunks he absolutely loves running!! Being a working type Springer he just keeps on going, on the way back he was off lead again and running full speed after squirrels! A stream runs parallel to the old railway line so he dashes in for a drink when he needs it.

Awww bless him! Love Springers. Flossie is a petite working Lab and she would chase a ball all day long. Such great running buddies. β€οΈπŸ•β€οΈ

Something special about a long Sunday run :) I think for me it is because it is the only day when I don't have any commitments. A day for hubby and I to enjoy together. We both had a Sunday run and later went for a stroll by the coast :)

Thank you, I was very pleased with the distance - slowly increasing since the beginning of the year. Last year I didn't really run at all due to tendonitis, so happy with progress :)

Not long till you and Squiggey get a new shiny badge Skysue. Well done to you both.

Getting there slowly, increasing gradually - so wary of injury! I think I need to enter a Canicross event so Squiggy can get a medal :) Perhaps a virtual one....

Create a virtual account for him and he can get his shiny badges here :D

Thats a super distance Sue, Well done yoy and Squiggy!😊

Having the coast as your destination must be a great motivator, that steep hill thoughπŸ˜₯...

I hope your knee is ok, I did a bit of strenghening on mine after a twinge, and it seems to have worked.

I hope you wrote your name in that sand! 😊xxx

Thank you! Didn't stop long enough to write my name! Yes, I am very aware of twinges since my tendonitis last year. I am determined not to get injured. Stopping to stretch did the trick and I haven't had any problems today :)
