Hi there and welcome to the New Quest for this month!
We have had so many changes in the weather...hot, dry, humid, and now, certainly for some of us, wet, wet, wet!
But...whatever the weather, the routes and the runs are out there and it is a great time to begin moving forward, (safely), with some new running adventures.
Making sure we are prepared for anything the weather throws at us...including good hydration, and of course.. sunscreen!
It is time to set some new goals that we can enjoy and enjoy the weather, whatever the weather
What the Quest is:-
The Quest takes one month . You can join any time, within those weeks.
The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this, is that while you are doing the programme, your plan is very structured, so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and Strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post, where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put;
I would like to join the Quest, or count me in, and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the Quest until the end.
At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.
Wishing you a happy, healthy and safe week.

Good morning Old Floss I made my July goal of sticking to 3 runs per week and hitting 5k again. In fact following the turn in the weather I have managed 2 glorious 5k runs, one yesterday and one on Sunday. The cooler weather has really been such a relief!
This month I would like to stick to the 3 runs per week, to consolidate on reaching 5k again, and to slowly stretch back up to my much missed longer 7k and 8k routes. Then hopefully, come September, 10k will be back within reach again
Excellent Oldfloss , please count me in whatever the weather.
I am setting exactly the same goals as for the Shady Runner:
i) 25km total running
ii) 5km total swimming
iii) yoga practice more days than not
iv) getting back within healthy BMI range (surely, surely, surely should not be that difficult, as of this morning it's only 0.6kgs away...)
The level of challenge these goals offer is increased this month as we are on holiday the last week... might be some fabulous cliff top running but clearly I can't leave everything to the end (and I might determine the weight loss goal achieved if I get there at some point during the month rather than necessarily still being there at the end of the month!). I lack some of the structure of term time and the pool gets busy, plus I have lots of things I need to be doing which take a lot of time and energy. But I am keen to get going, whatever the weather.
Please can you put me down. My aim for August is to do 3 regular runs plus a speed training run a week. I also need to increase distance to 8 miles comfortably at the end of the month to be good for the Great South Run in October.
Slowly increase the distance and speed is the plan. Also a total of 50miles running in August
Thanks Floss! I might need to set some sort of target for the second goal, but as I've still not got past the first session of Strength and Flex, I need to find out more before I set that goal if you see what I mean.
As for the 5k in 30 minutes or less, let me clarify, I don't in any way endorse the idea that you SHOULD run 5k in 30 minutes. It's not necessary! Terms conditions apply etc. It's just something I want to achieve as part of my running journey, and I think I probably can achieve it. I know it will help my distance running easier, and I also know it will satisfy that little part of me that feels like I didn't graduate properly from C25K because I didn't do 5k in 30 minutes. I know, I know, it's probably me just being OCD, but it's just something I have to do. Or die trying. Maybe the latter knowing my luck lol!
Of course I shall report back with the obligatory photo of the aforementioned running purchases, and I fully expect them to propel me to doing 5k in, what, 10 minutes??
For me I think this month is mainly about consolidation, plus preparation for my first 10k race in early Sept. So I think this month's quest goals are:
- Do a run of 15km (max to date is 12.5km, so that's a modest weekly increase)
- Run for 100km in total (the Strava challenge thingy shows that I did 94km last month, so again just a modest improvement)
My quest is to do the rest of week 3, weeks 4-6 and start week 7 of ju-ju’s 10k programme. That should see me do 3 runs each week 4k and above and reach 9k.
I need to join the quest! My husband, who has dementia, is back from the hospital and rehab after breaking multiple bones in his ankle from a fall off a ladder a month ago. I am so busy feeding cats/dog, cooking, and cleaning, that I need to make sure I leave room for running in my schedule. My goal is to run every other day and walk on "off" days, as well as to lift weights three days a week.
I’d like to drink less beer, loose a stone and graduate. 9 runs to go, so hopefully the last one should be achievable. Not so sure about the other two goals... 🤔
Count me in. I’m going to stick with a similar theme as July. I know August will have lots of distractions so my goal is to run 10 times. Got off to a good start this morning.
I would like to continue running 3 times a week two 30 min runs and one run trying one or all of the c25k plus pods. I see everyone talking about strength exercises can you advise more info please as I only walk on non run days
Great goals there...... on some rest days.. strength and stamina could be... walk, as you do... but a decent length at a brisk pace... yoga, swimming, cycling... Pilates.. There are lots of routines on the internet too... I use this one as part of my daily regime...
I will check out the link in the morning. I have a border collie who now runs with me (well I run and he speed walks.... ) so daily walking for a couple of hours in total is the norm though I maybe should try increasing the speed... food for thought thank you
Hi dear Floss, please count me in for this one! My goal is quite simple: be running 12k by the end of the Quest. I will also be hitting the gym regularly and hope to achieve a swim or two.
I am going to do similar to what I did in March, run or walk everyday. A minimum of 3k.......but I can do as far as I feel. This month I will total the distance out of interest, then next month I will increase total distance, and maybe find a distance challenge.
I find running further than 7k really hard going in the heat........but equally the sunshine is lovely!
Hi Oldfloss, great thinking. I am running 3 times a week, rest days are important to me as don’t want to get injured. I’m up to running 8k exactly, hopefully building up to the full 10k By the end of August. I am enjoying it as couldn’t run a metre at the end of April. I’m so happy with my progress. I need to enter races but am very slow, takes me 50 minutes or so to do 8k. Please add my name to the Quest. Thanks.
Hi Oldfloss, please can I join the quest. I graduated C25K in early July & have been consolidating with 3 runs a week since then.
I aim to start Ju Ju’s 10k plan on 10th August. I am also going along for my first session with my local Women on the Run club to add some variety & company to my running. Oh, and also keep doing Parkrun every week (maybe getting brave enough to try one nearby that includes some trails & hills!).
My running habit became really erratic in July due to pressures of work and most of my goals went out of the window. So for August and summer holiday running I'm keeping it simple -
I want to run on alternate days, but run for fun - meaning running whatever/wherever makes me happy 😁.
August will also see my 1 year anniversary of beginning C25K - a year ago I'd never have believed I'd be running for fun - let alone running 10k - how lucky am I?😊
Count me in and then I would like to run 3 times a week doing the 10 is the magic number program plus trying to lose the 5lb I need for healthy BMI as I been on a weight lose plateau since starting running the C25K
I think I’ll be replacing running shoes for climbing boots most of Aug 13-18 week, so won’t aim to progress my running that week unless it feels right. Apart from then, I’m aiming to keep up running 3 times a week, and to keep progressing on Juju’s 10K plan...
Have just read an article someone shared about running pace, which means (based on my best Parkrun pace) I should be trying to slow my longer run pace down even more, so I guess that had better be an aim for August too! 😊
It's going to be a tough month to keep my running consistent, but count me in please OldFloss. My quest:
1. Continue to try and get 3 runs in per week, making at least my Friday run a trail run at the lake. Some runs may be short city runs, but any run is better than no run.
2. To increase the distance of my trail runs to 10k, running the actual 10k course for my race at least once this month, but preferably twice.
3. To continue to work on hill training weekly.
Holidays at the lake start tomorrow so at least I'll start this month with a bang.
This is a great idea, thanks for this! I graduated in July and can now run 5K but in nowhere near 30 minutes (I know who cares but I think I should be able to achieve this - maybe not this month though...)
my goals are
1) run 3 times a week
2) find something to do on rest days
3) start Ju Ju’s 10k plan
4) do 2 parkruns - gutted I can't go tomorrow but childcare fail
Great targets there... rest days.. well at least some of them, use for rest day non impact exercise...Core strength and Stamina are as important as the legs Maybe up the ones you were doing alongside C25K ? Or add some new ones
Sounds like a great plan my friend New routes sound exciting too... and getting back on track... wonderful...Hope I have the same determination Well done you!
