Hi there , and welcome to Week 4 of the Quest.

Sorry for being a day late...small runner in training in full form yesterday!

How are your targets or goals coming along. Cooler weather for some of us and rain too... all shaking up the mix:)

Lots of us are doing some super runs , and achieving great things too!

The runs are always out there and always waiting for us.. so, if you are able, let us know how it's all going and get out there and enjoy those runs!

Please, remember that we should aim to be prepared for anything the weather throws at us...including good hydration, ( every day ), especially with the longer runs!

So.... healthy and happy running everyone as we head onwards!

What the Quest is:-

The Quest takes one month . You can join any time, within those weeks.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this, is that while you are doing the programme, your plan is very structured, so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post, where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or count me in, and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the Quest until the end.

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and safe week.

I don’t seem to be on the list Oldfloss but I will still confess that I have not met my target of 3 times a week due to social commitments and visitors. But I will get a run in today if I can and definitely at Parkrun on Saturday. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Oldfloss - a good week for me.

My target was running on alternate days and having fun with it. So this week I experimented with intervals- trying out a 45 minute ramp intervals session from podrunner (which really was fun) and a shorter pyramid interval session from audiofuel (which was less fun bit good for me I'm sure 😂). On Sunday I ran one of my favourite routes at the local reservoir (nice and flat 😊) to mark my one year anniversary of starting C25K and the intervals are obviously paying off as I I did my best 5K time (A tad under 33 minutes).

Hoping to get out for a longer more leisurely run today but have woken up to heavy rain!...

My quest was continuing ju-ju-‘s plan to 10k, which I have done. I skipped repeating 8k and did 9k instead to end W5 and I plan to skip repeating 9k and aim to do 10k on Saturday. I’ll then spend a few weeks consolidating at 10k and stretching towards 12k.

Hi all, since the last posting I have added 4 runs including a successful 10k on Sunday. The cooler temperatures are definitely helping. Work commitments and travelling will get in the way over the next week but hopefully I’ll get a chance to do 1 or 2 more runs in August.

Happy running.

Hi everyone

As for Jay, I’m planning to skip the repeat weeks on Juju’s plan, so ran my 9k on Monday, and hope to do 10k next Monday. So continuing to 10k goal going well, and am back to my running 3 times a week goal now our holiday week over. Even the rethought slowing down my longer runs goal was very successful on Monday - by the last few kms in heat and humidity, I was going slower then ever! 😂❤️🐌

Oldfloss - please do keep us posted about today’s MRI results appt...is it still on or cancelled again? 🤞🤞🤞🍀🍀🍀❤️❤️❤️

Hi all, I’m pleased to say I’m getting the running embedded I think, I ran on Tuesday and today this week after the Parkrun on Saturday - I’m very 🐌 and I think I will need some weeks to get established in my running before I start to venture towards the Bridge - I’ve been and peeped at the Go-tri page too! I think I like this exercise lark!!

Well done!

Good luck with the consultant today Oldfloss.

I've done my first 5km this week after doing 8km at the weekend (which I thought I couldn't do :( ). I feel really strong - legs, breathing, munching little hills. It's a fantastic feeling. I am in France and my plan for this week is to run 8.5km. I am completely hooked by a book "What I talk about when I talk about running" by Murakami. Anyone got running book recommendations for my holidays?

Managed to get my 3 runs in last week despite some very poor air quality conditions due to forest fire smoke blowing in from a neighbouring province and being away for a car show with my husband's family with our street rods. This week so far has been a write off runningwise due to being up all night for work and just not bouncing back. I work all weekend so fingers crossed I'll get one run in tomorrow. Hoping to drive to the lake and get a trail run in, but will see what time I wake up and how hot tomorrow gets by the time I wake up. Sleep recovery is a little more important right now, but I don't tend to sleep in so may be able to get out before it gets hot.

We've decided to head to the lake after work tonight and spend the night, so I have no excuses! Should get a run in tomorrow. It may be my only run for the week, but it should be a good one 🤞

Dear Oldfloss, I have not run at all since this quest started. I have been rolled up in appointments with PT, OT, social workers, doctors, and dentists for my dementia husband. I have been afraid to leave him alone, AND I am exhausted from just staying home; I don't know why really....

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate10 in reply to LiisaM

Sounds understandably shattering, Liisa. I’m not surprised you’re exhausted. ❤️

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to LiisaM

Oh gosh... things are not good for you right now...is there no external help you might get xxxx

LiisaM profile image
LiisaM in reply to Oldfloss

I am thinking about some day care--respite for me....

in reply to LiisaM

I can understand why you're exhausted. It sounds like a really difficult time. Hope you can get out and do a little run for yourself. Otherwise, take care of yourself.

MandiV profile image
MandiV in reply to LiisaM

Liisa sending positive thoughts to you, sounds as though things are really hard at the minute- running will still be there when you get a little more time xx

Jundal profile image
Jundal in reply to LiisaM

Lisa, if you speak to to husband's social worker you may be able to get some respite care for your husband. There are hospices and the such like that deal with this kind of thing. You're not alone. There are people that can help you. Please, access them. If you get some rest, you'll be able to take care of him better, which will make him happier. And i get it, it's all about him, isn't it? Get help. It'll make you more able to help and love him. Please trust me.

Questing going pretty well.

Managed to run twice with Daniel last week - once at running club efforts and then parkrun.

Ran on the track as well which is now unfortunately closed for maintenence.

Didn't get in any strength workouts but that will hopefully be easier once the summer holidays are over.

Not part of my quest but I'm taking part in my first race on Monday! My son, his Dad and his step-mum are all doing it too. It's 5k between two villages - no medal but you do get a free pint at the end 😂

Still running 3 times a week, 2 x 5km, one of these is Parkrun. I am now enjoying running with other runners around me, and a 10km. The 10km run on Monday stretched to 12km. I switched off all the alerts on my Garmin. Pressed start and just ran for fun. Titled the run "Best Run Ever" on Strava, which it was. Felt on top of the world after that run :-)

I haven't had replies from the two running groups I contacted. Next week I will go in person and see If they are taking new recruits.

Enjoy your runs everyone :-)

Hi Oldfloss

My goals were to run 10k and post more and I'm very proud to say that I ran my first 10k on the 12th of August and then posted about it (and got a lot of kind and supportive replies) ooh and I got a Parkrun pb last weekend!! 😊😊

Oh dear...I need to wake up more! Read your first line as “My goats were to run 10k...”!! 😂😂😂 Was initially very impressed to hear you had goats, then wondering where they’d planned to run...🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣❤️

Hi Oldfloss, pop me on the list too. I need to stick to Ju-Ju’s plan, feeling a bit flaky. Didn’t run for a couple of weeks on holiday (42 degrees is my excuse) and struggling a bit to get back in the habit.

Hi - count me in. I need to get out of my comfort zone . . . Since graduating a month ago I’ve done 2-3 consolidation runs per week (after the first two I ditched the app – time passes more quickly for me without the time checks!) My aim is to continue running 3 times a week, increase my running time and eventually achieve 5k with the help of the C25k+ stepping stone and stamina podcasts (I’m happy being a 🐌so think I’ll give speed a miss!).
