Hi. I am not your average (by that I mean pictures of lady runners, or catered for in shops) size. I am probably between an 18/16 uk size.
Until now I have just been running in rubbish black, cotton, regular, on-sporty, wear everyday, leggings from sainsbury's (lush ha ha ha0. But, after running for 6 months I feel I should probably buy something more appropriate.
However, does anyone know any shops, or can recommend a brand that cater for a bit bigger with a belly????

TK Maxx are good cater for larger sizes and nice prices too. Just make sure you get something with a high waist and preferably a draw string waist so they can't roll down to half mast 😀
I love sweaty Betty although its expensive ( good sales tho). They do size 16 and their sizes are generous. What I like is that they have a generous waistline. I hate anything lying under my tummy or irritating my caesarean scar!
Never heard of them. Thanks. Will defo check them out. And anything is bound to be more pricey than my 2 for £10 leggings so far ha ha ha. Oh the shame ha ha ha
I'm a 51 year old fat bloke (BUT NOT AS FAT AS I WAS!!!!) so no expert on ladies sizes... but last year I wanted to treat myself to a bit of kit. I bought a pair of Karrimor Run leggings from Sports Direct! As a oldish, fatish bloke it was clear Sports Direct was not my "preferred habitat" but I was able to try on several pairs and am pleased with what I bought
I used to run in cheapo black leggings from Asda. I changed to air wicking ones eventually because I was getting too sweaty in...ahem...places. Sports Direct has been good to me. I defo agree with having a draw string at the waist, although I've set out a few times and forgotten to do it up. I have sufficient waistline for a slow mo descent though, so it hasn't been instant disaster! 🙈 Let us know what you find and post pics. There's nothing like a bit of new kit. 😉
I wouldn’t get the cheapest Karrimor ones for running as they are thinner fabric which doesn’t suck you in. My first ones, when I was a lot larger than I am now, were Nike ones with a good level of Lycra and elastane to hold everything in,and smooth out lumps and bumps. I got them from Sportsdirect though 👍 I was dreading putting them on for the first time ever but was actually relieved when I got them on 😃
Once you have found a brand and size you like, look on eBay. I have picked up new stuff on there at a fraction of the price (Ron Hill, Karrimor, Nike, Muddy Fox...) e.g. t shirts for £1 + modest postage as I was the only bidder. Maybe optimistically purchased by people who didn't know about this forum to give them the motivation to keep going!
I know this is not a cheap option but Nike running leggings really take some beating and they have plenty of models in all sizes.
They are made of some form of magic fabric that covers a multitude of sins and I find that once I'm in them, I completely forget about them until it's time to take them off, which is a sign they are good IMO. I've used them in all sorts of weather. They all come with a cord (100% essential) and a nice wide waistband and I think they have higher waisted options (most leggings have higher waists these day though).
I have three pairs now - the first are practically a museum piece but honestly, bar a little hole inside the waistband pocket (my fault, caused by shoving huge keys in there) they are still like new, and I don't think I paid anything near full price for any of them. Zalando, Sportsshoes, Misterrunning, Ebay are all your friends.
Primark, Sainsburys, Tesco - you do not have to spend a fortune to get some decent leggings in larger sizes. I know! I prefer mine to have a drawstring and a pocket for my inhaler. Many of the pretty ones are just for gym or yoga so don't have these features but it's up to you. There are loads of options out there though - get shopping!
Just a note. If you buy anything with a drawstring waist, tie the drawstring before you put it in the washing machine. Otherwise it might retract inside the waistband and you will have to retrieve/rethread it. Hopefully you will notice it before you are about to wear it as it will be a very annoying start to your run.
NB: I favour a safety pin as the rethreading tool.
Hello all. I have purchased a pair of Ronhill running tights and a skort! Never worn a skort before in my life - might be brave enough to post pics when they are delivered.
Thanks again for the tons of kind advice you gave me - I must admit I've looked at every website for hours - the fun you can have when you should be working ha ha ha
