Today saw me undertake what was only my second run in over two weeks. I have been running, but only very short journeys to the bathroom that ...well, draw a veil over them (too much information).
I picked up- I know not how-some sort of stomach invader. It has taken some shaking off. It was probably something lurking in the fetid bogs and swamps hereabouts or excreted by some Welsh sheep down here for its Winter break before returning to its mountain home in Llanwherever.
Whatever; I am just glad to be getting back to normal, or as near to normal as we ever get here on Poverty Bank.
The first kilometre felt very strange -like starting C25K all over again- heavy legs and heavier heart. My asthma has been playing silly beggars too. Only a matter of days after cruising to 10k I was having to call it a day at 5. It took me a level 36 mins too: I am successfully getting slower.
Anyway, back in the saddle again and good weather is sure to be on its way...isn't it?

Oh you poor thing!!!sounds like you have been through the mill!!!being unwell can really set you back so just take it easy & be a little bit kind to yourself.i am sure you will get to your 10k before too long 😊
You really have had a run of obstacles (if you see what i mean). I'm rooting for you and betting you are back up to speed really soon. I thought about you yesterday, and that i hadn't seen any recent posts from you, so that explains why. Come and run here. On top of a hill with the wind sweeping in from Siberia. If it isn't snowing it's raining, but the air is VERY fresh.
Oh eck what a crock of sh..... 😁 You’re back now but you’re bound to be weaker from all that dehydrating stuff. You might not be eating much yet either so it does take a while to get back to firing on all cylinders.
You will though, and it’ll be like you were never away 💪👍🏃♂️
Getting back to normal service now though and am prescribing myself Old Rosie Cider-my favourite-as a rejuvinative elixir: if I have any spare I use it to kill the weeds around the house.
You have been poorly, this will definately mean it will take a bit of time to get the oomph back... but you will, and before you know it you will be knocking out the 10k's again....
Sorry to hear you have been unwell, Pm3eak – thought I had not "seen" you around for a while. Having a bug like that can really weaken you, so give yourself a break man! A slow 5k is a great re-entry to running after being poorly. You will build up again nay bother!
It really is very unlike me: I normally have the constitution of an ox and haven't even had a cold or flu in years. This just hung around and the cramps, wind and bloatedness just wouldn't ease.
I've caught a few bugs from livestock in my farming life and some do resurface now and again, just to remind you how pathetic you are in the big scheme of things: I suspect this is what has happened.
You will soon be back to normal, just wait and see. The first steps back are the hardest. Seems a lot us us have had a couple of weeks out of action recently.
Hope you'll be back to speed soon but perhaps just embrace relaxed slow runs for as long as you feel like it for now, just to ease back into it. Actually a full 5k doesn't sound like a bad comeback to me at all...
Gastrointestinal problems really knock you sideways long after the acute phase and it takes some time to get over them fully. Probably the best thing you can do to help your running build up again is to make sure you are rehydrating fully, eating well, and resting as much as possible.
