Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!

And bling!

Decided on Wednesday night after running club, just to go for it & enter the Great Scottish run - 10k. My first! I'd pretty much run (no pun intended!) out of excuses.

So on an extremely driech (brilliant Scottish word, it is exactly as it sounds, very wet & very grey) I headed into Glasgow & joined the thousands of folks warming up.

I had a plan, stay near the back of my group & start slow. My plan didn't work!!! Instead of running my first k at 6mins per k, it's turns out I ran it at 5:40, but at least I never went above that for the whole run & did finish faster than I started - so that part of the plan worked!

Spectators at strategic points & music or pipers at others provided a great boost.

I was thrilled to finish in 53:54, position 2264 and 24th in my age group & gender!

Shame it was a rotten day, but I'm still buzzing & think I will be for quite some time!

I can't remember the exact date, but I do know I started the C25K in October last year, so taking this as my runniversary present!

  • Well if your going to run a cracking 10k, do it in a race, I say! πŸ₯‡Really well done on your fantastic time! Bet you'll be scouting for the next one now?!πŸ˜€

  • lol I am! Though think I might prefer the more trail type.

  • Brilliant time Davoda! Well done on your first race. Was there bling?

  • Thank you! Yes got the bling! But actually prefer the t-shirt! Bling is a bit of a dust collector!

  • Happy Runniversary then! Well done and congratulations on your race. Great fun aren't they! Well, maybe not always but mostly they are. So, you'll be thinking about your next one then?

  • Great fun & great atmosphere BEFORE the race (& no doubt afterwards, when it's not pouring!). But during its more like "Why am I doing this? Only 7k? I could walk a bit... I'll never make it!"

  • Wow Davoda, fabulous time. What a fantastic way to celebrate your runniversary. I'm not surprised you were buzzing. Well done.

  • Thank you! I was thinking of you & wondering if I could get near your time! Also thinking how you graduated just before me & did Parkrun the week before me & your first 10k a week before me.... So watching carefully to see what your next plan isπŸ˜‰

  • Fantastic time! Very well done πŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸ˜€

  • Thank you! I'm well chuffed! I know speed doesn't matter, but I do want to find out what I'm capable of, so no doubt I'll push harder!

  • Fantastic time and result - congratulations!

  • Thanks! Still can't quite believe it!

  • Congratulations and very well done to you for a fantastic pace and time. Brilliant result.

  • Thank you! When my friend who was tracking me messaged me my time, I was over the moon!

  • Well done and great time !!

My daughter and a few other family members did the half marathon....... euphoric was her description 😊

My hope is to be able to do the 10k next year πŸ™ˆ

  • Well done to your daughter etc! The 1/2 is not an easy course. I got home, changed & went up to support them as they entered Bellahouston Park.

You will do it! No reason why not.
