Week 8: Run 2 (Made a bit of a mess of it)

10 minute jog, 9 minute tempo run, 10 minute steady run.

It is so lovely and cool here this morning, with a mist of rain in the air, so I decided it was cool enough for my daughter's Beagle to be harnessed up (leaving my Spaniel free to go at her own pace) so we could run the river together. She was a very eager Beagle, and I think I must have let it go to my head, as we set out too quickly, more like a steady run pace. I managed to slow us down a bit, but not much. I reckoned this wasn't too awful, and we could always jog at the end.

I did manage to speed us up for the tempo run, but not as much as I wanted. I'd planned to replicate the pace of the seven minute long tempo run that I did (dogless) the other week, but I just couldn't get my speed up enough, even with doggy help and the voice of MapMyFitness telling me to 'Speed Up!' Lesson learned, I think. Tempo section was also affected by several other dog walkers coming in the opposite direction, which was nice - as a couple of them are people I see often enough to say hello to - but frustrating as the Beagle wanted to stop and play.

The official steady run section was announced and - mostly because the tempo section had been so poor - I managed to start off pretty well, but was then thoroughly sabotaged by many, many small groups of teenaged students and Scouts all hiking the river - towards me - as part of their DoE Awards. They were all very well behaved (As I was happy to tell their Scout Leaders and teachers(?)) and were good at giving way to us, but it was frustrating.

It's actually really hard to manage pace like that. You had lots of other factors there too but it sounds like on balance it was still a good run! I hope it all falls into place soon :)

I've had a couple of runs recently where I've really nailed my paces, but I've only had my own girl with me, running free.

Bitty and bobby but a good run.. and quite eventful too! Despite the distractions you had a good experience of what you were hoping to achieve?

It will come:)

It was good enough for me that I don't feel the need to repeat it. If the weather is as rainy as it looks like it will be tomorrow morning I'll do my 60 minute run <gulp> tomorrow.
