Off I went this afternoon for my first run this week of my 10-week plan to do 10k in <60 minutes. It's the first time I've done it in the early afternoon and I think it's probably my least favourite time of the day.
I only had a 20-minute easy jog to do, in which I managed to run 3.21km at an average pace of 6:15. I chose to run around my local park, which is conveniently about 5 minutes of brisk walking away. I have to walk briskly as fast as possible to get through the closed entrance gate, otherwise, I get to the gate just before it's time to run, which is kind of tedious.
I found hills that I could have sworn weren't there the last time I walked there, including the one in the photo which funnily enough got me turned around and going back down. By the end of the run, my legs felt heavy and I could feel my right leg getting shin-splint type symptoms.
Thankfully after stretching that's gone but today I think I didn't run slowly enough for an 'easy' run. My lowest kph was 7:51 and I started out at 5:52. I don't think slow running is what I need to do but I definitely need to move slower. Going up hills particularly my breathing was more laboured than it should be.
I am wondering whether I should have had more than one day's rest after doing a <30 minute 5k. I suppose that is pretty much race pace for where I'm at so maybe my body needed another day. I felt fine and keen going out and feel fine now, but wonder whether I might have found it easier doing it tomorrow than today.
I've got speed training on Wednesday which should be interesting! I've got to run at maximum effort for 2 x 2 minutes. I won't be surprised if my max speed (on the flat) is barely faster than the 4:58 that I was running at one point on Saturday but we shall see.
So all in all not that bad of a run ๐๐ but certainly not as rewarding as my one I did on the weekend.
I hope your runs are going well, thanks as always for your time.
I've now got 10 people following me! ๐ฎ you are all awesome ๐คธ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คธ๐ปโโ๏ธ
