Hi everybody,

Please feel free to share your runs here and chat about how it's all going,

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If youre a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week !

Another training run today to do at lunchtime but I am struggling to motivate myself for the slow 5 miles. At least the weather is drier today!

Sad news of a 37 yr old man collapsing 400m from the finish line of the Weybridge 10k. Following lengthy cpr, he died in hospital. Such a sad thing to happen.

That's so sad and he was young too.

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to

You did your 5 miles, though, didn't you? And relatively easily?

Very sad news about the poor guy in Weybridge :(

in reply toAnniemurph

Yes I did my 5 miles and it was comfortable. It was hard to motivate myself out of the door though! I felt so much better once I had been out.

I had a fabulous run this morning and felt really gazelle-like 😊. I'm still "running in" my newly adjusted orthotics so building up the distance slowly again. But everything came together today. I've been doing lots of glutes exercises and bicycle crunches and whether that's got anything to do with how I felt but I felt strong and somehow was running differently, in a good way! No niggles so far 🤗.

The past week so many things have clicked into place (must be Spring is in the air!) but if I haven't felt Gazelle like then I have at least felt less elephantine. I put on a fair amount of weight when I broke the leg. Now, I've lost over 16.65987 lbs during the last 6 weeks (which is about 8 bags of sugar or 3 large rabbits) and feel fantastic - plus I can get back into my trousers! On Saturday I ran for 50 minutes about (my watch decided to pack up at 45 minutes so the last 5 mins were a bit of a guess! Yesterday I got within 5 seconds of sub 30mins for 5K so I am a happy bunny.

It's over two years since I gave up smoking and I am finding it so much easier to run now than I did even one year ago. Plus the broken leg is holding up well even though it does have occasional 'look at me - look at me' moments but I just put that down to attention seeking!

So fingers crossed for the super 10k certificate, shiny new 10K badge and gigantic heap of cash in a few weeks. There is a gigantic heap of cash isn't there???

Good running everyone.

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Great update, Runon - yes, of course there is a wonderful certificate, badge and mahoosive heap of cash! All sparkly gold - you just have to run to the end of the rainbow to find it ;)

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply toAnniemurph

Brilliant Anniemurph :) I guess it must be 10K in cash and I suppose I'll get a 'Rainbow' badge too?

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Haha Runon 😂 I've never come across any other person who's seen his weight loss as equivalent to 3 large rabbits 😂😂😂

Well done to you though. And for a speedy 5K too!

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply toIrishprincess

I know it is a bit unusual Princess - I normally use tortoises :)

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Tee Hee, Well done David !

Very interesting theory you wrote there regarding the weight loss equalling to a sum > no more , or equal to or less than 3 rabbits. Therefore ,if my calculations are correct , I have worked out the following formula : 3 rabbits are the equivalent of 6 small tortoises which convert to 1 Pug + 1 Pug body part + A ( - Z) so you have lost the equivalent of 1 Pug , a Pugs bum and a rabbits ear .

That's amazing , Go you Runon ! :-D xxx

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply topoppypug

So according to Einstein E=MCsquared where M is a mouse and C is a cat? I have to say Poppers you can't really go using animal parts in weight loss. I only use whole tortoises - they are consistent. After all a stone can be lots of different sizes and a five pound note weighs the same as a ten pound note almost and I get kilograms confused with telegrams - hence the tortoises. Jus' sayin' :)

No pugs were harmed in the making of this message.

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Ah yes MC squared , of course ! Ah its all relative isn't it ? Bob's your Auntie and all that :-) xxx

I want to lose 4 bags of sugar or one and a half large rabbits this spring. Poor unwanted rabbits.

(Well done you!)

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply toAnneDroid

It's not that they're unwanted - I see it as them winning their freedom :)

Morning All !

Completed my 2 x 7ks last week as per my HM training plan. I have another 2 x 7ks to do this week . I am entering my " Go Faster " phase , but will probably do that at my normal pace as if I consciously try and " Go faster " I get out of breath and feel sick ! Anyway, I will give it my best shot :-)

Have a great week folks ! :-) xxx

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply topoppypug

I like the idea of going faster at your normal pace - well done you - two 7Ks looks like this;

Kkkkkkkkkkkkkk :) xxx

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10

Ha ha , I cant believe I actually stopped for a minute and counted those k's and yes , youre absolutely right ! Fancy that :-D

I have only got one speed David, I do try and " go faster " when my plan dictates that , but in the end I think " Nah , s*d it, I would like to hold on to my stomach contents , ta very much " :-) xxx

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply topoppypug

Well between you and me and thank heavens nobody else can read this but us but I was nearly sick after my last run - I'd put on a final spurt and finished by pure fluke outside the only house for miles (well kilometres) and did that kind of bending forward bit that professional athletes do at the end of races - which is when I felt sick - fortunately I wasn't and when I finally looked up there was the farmers wife looking out from behind the net curtains - I gave her my best smile and trotted on. Xxx

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Ah yes don't worry , no one else is reading this , your secret is safe with me . * Taps finger on side of nose *

You are doing brilliantly since you got your new leg . When you got mended at the hospital they must have given you one of those super turbo charged ones !

I am still plodding on like a donkey on Southport beach :-) xxx

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J

I'm with you Pops, One-speed Slow Slow Jacs is what I told my plan!

To get faster I need to lose the equivalent of at least 4 very large rabbits, but not happy on allowing them their freedom around here as I will shortly start to plant up the veggie patch! 🐇🐇🐇🐇🥕🥕🥕🥕

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply toMillsie-J

Loosing two rabbits will shave approx one minute off a 5k - it's a proven fact. Try carrying two rabbits and see how much they slow you down :)

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply toRunon

🤔 even after four rabbits gone I will still be desperately slow..... but someone has to be at the back teehee! I just feel pleased with myself that I'm running, speed is not something I am worried about .....which is lucky!

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply toMillsie-J

Speed is over-rated - which is why I've given away my Ferrari. More seriously you are absolutely right - take it at your own pace and enjoy it - we are lucky to be able to run - it's brilliant - who needs a Ferrari - (he quietly sobs in a corner) 😎

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10

Ha ha Millsie-J , A Gal after my own heart ! :-)

We used to eat a lot of rabbit when I was growing up. I think its cos it was cheap. Oh I just cant bear the thought of it now , plus I remember my Mams Rabbit Stew had lots of tiny bones in it - Boak ! :-) xxx

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10

When I was at Slimming World , a tin of beans equalled one pound weight loss . So you have lost 16 tins of beans @Runon !

That must be 2 carrier bags full at least !

Well done you :-) xxx

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply topoppypug

Wow - that's heavy - especially if the rabbits ate the beans!

I like the old chocolate puddings you see and thought before I broke the leg that so long as I run I can eat whatever I wanted - trouble is after ending up on the couch I carried on eating as though I was running - not a good idea as the rabbits jump onto you almost instantly - so just a few more pounds to go and I'm back to where I was pre leg and pre non-smoking. It's amazing what a difference losing a few pounds makes though to the running!

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10 in reply toRunon

Yes so true ! Last year when I lost 21 tins of beans , I was like a rat up a pipe ! I have slowed down now to a steadier pace xxx

Runon profile image
RunonGraduate10 in reply topoppypug

Wow - how many pugs is 21 tins of beans? Xxx

Slowly creeping to the 10k goal; 5 miles one week, then 5.5 the next, 9k (or 5.6 miles) the week after - and 6 miles this morning, which is what? About 9.25k, I think. Hopefully, I'll get to 10k next week.

I went cross country a bit today which made me even slower than usual and I would like to speed up a bit because otherwise 10k + runs are going to be difficult to fit in.

Think I might do parkrun on Saturday and see if I can use all this new stamina to increase my speed. There's a local half marathon on Sunday, maybe I'll get faster just by watching them!!

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate10 in reply toMrsLis

Good Luck MrsLis , you are doing really well !

10k is well within your reach :-) xxx
