Has anyone had anything like this from their event organisers before.  It's a first for me.  A flag system with warnings.  I know the weather has been unpredictable lately but....

First for me - tho' I wouldn't have wanted to be out in the hail that was hammering down on my car this afternoon - immediately followed by glorious sunshine

I know but I cant help feeling in the UK we are used to changeable weather. It is our favourite topic of conversation.

Where abouts is your run?  I haven't seen anything as formal as this, but I could imagine that it would be particularly pertinent for some races (such as some of the events that happen at low tides or in particularly exposed parts).

It's in Hackney in London.  It is a closed road race so we don't even have traffic to contend with.

Just realised your half marathon is the Hackney one.  I am going there to support my daughter, who is running it.  All the best with it.

Good luck to your daughter.  If you see a beetroot faced huffin and puffin bringing up the rear of the runners with the number 9535 that's me, give me a wave.
