Reclast after Evenity

I just completed my 1 yr of Evenity and got good results on my DEXA. My Endocrinologist recommended Reclast IV. I’ve hesitated to take Bisphosphonates because of the side effects. Has anyone used Reclast after Evenity or Forteo ( in used 2016-2018). I also used Prolia from 2019 - 2023.

I’m in the USA.

I appreciate your input based on your experience with these treatments.

Thank you

did you drink plenty of water, and take paracetamol to alleviate symptoms?

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t started Reclast IV treatment yet, but I do plan to be well hydrated and take Tylenol prior to my appointment.

You'll need to take a bisphosphonate of some description on stopping Evenity, as they don't know yet whether it carries the same risk of rebound fractures as can happen on stopping Prolia. Most people are fine with Reclast ( Zoledronic Acid) - it isn't unusual to feel a little flu-like for a couple of days afterwards, but then you can forget about it for another year.

hi I’m sorry I don’t have an answer to your question but I have a question for you. It seems like you took the same course of treatment as I did, 2 years of forteo, a year and an half on prolia, and I want to get off prolia, due to side effects. doctor is now recommending. I go on evenity and not a biphosphonate, everything that I read says that you must follow prolia with a by phosphonate, but it seems like you went directly from prolia to evenity, just wondering how you did with that and did you suffer any rebound fractures? Any reason why they suggested evenity as opposed to biphosphone or is it just because you did not want a BP. The doctors tell me because my t score is so bad -4.2 in spine that I need to build BONE, which evenity would do, but it does not address the rebound situation. Sorry for so many questions, but I am struggling with what to do next.

I took Forteo in 2016-2018, then followed it with Prolia from 2019 to 2023. I stopped Prolia in 6/2023, and started using Evenity in 7/2023. In Nov 2023, I tripped and fell on my right hip onto my kitchen marble floor. It was not atypical fracture. I believe anyone with or without osteoporosis would have broken a bone on a marble floor.

Unfortunately I did require a total hip replacement, but I have been very disciplined with my physical therapy and now have 100% range of motion on the right hip. During my rehab I was not able to continue my Evenity injections bc I couldn’t get into my doctors office. I missed 3 months of Evenity injections but got back on track and completed the 12 months of treatment in August 2024. On August 12, 2024, I had another DEXA scan with some improvement in both my Spine & Hip.

I will get my first Reclast infusion on September 6, 2024, in hopes to maintain my BMD gains and prevent further bone loss.

Attached is a graph that shows my DEXA scores, dates & osteoporosis treatment.

Best Wishes & take care.

I chose to go on Evenity bc I wanted to avoid taking a Bisphosphonates as long as I could. Also because Evenity is unlike Forteo, Prolia and BPs.

Evenity ® is an anabolic treatment that's unique, because it's the only one that works two ways by building new bone and, to a lesser extent, slowing down bone loss.helps build bone and slow bone breakdown at the same time.

Take care & best wishes

Hi Jenni, I was on Forteo daily subcutaneous injections, although scheduled for a year gave them up after 10 months as the side effects of general malaise were affecting my general health. I have to admit that the results were good. Took my hips back to Osteopenia and my spine to 2.5. Prolija was prescribed and in 2 and a half years of 6 monthly injections my osteoporosis has worsened .

Looks like you had similar results as I did with Forteo and Prolia. See attached graph of my changes in BMD.

I did use Forteo for the 2 full years. My side effects were minimal.

So glad, as only thought one could use it for a year ?

Yes & recently the FDA removed the box warning and you can now take it a total of 3 yrs. BTW, I live in the USA.

I’m saving the 3 yr for a later time in case my BMD starts to decline again.

Take care & best wishes
