Hi. I’m a 61-year-old female living in Florida. I’ve taken Prednisone off and on for many years and was afraid to get a bone density test since I couldn’t take any of the prescribed osteoporosis medications. I have fractured 4 vertebrae since October, and I am a mess. My rheumatologist started me on Evenity, a brand new drug he thinks I can tolerate. Is anyone else getting the shots?

Evenity might be called something else in the UK. Do you know the drug name rather than the brand name? You'll be more likely to get a response as the parent organisation that administers this forum is UK based, I believe.
Evenity is available in the UK (romosozumab). It was only approved for use here last year. It is used for 1yr after which another medication is needed.
If you put Evenity into the search box at the top of the page (to the right of the HealthUnlocked banner) you will see several posts and information.
Evenity is a drug brought to you by the company which gave us Prolia. It has a black box warning. One of its side effects can be death. I trust your doctor made sure you were not in the category of patient who is placed at risk by this medication.
It's important to have baseline DXA scan before taking osteoporosis medication as you have no other way to know if the medication is working. A DXA scan is nothing to be afraid of. The radiation is very low.

Thank you so much. I know about the cardiac side effects. I am having a pharmacological stress test next week to rule out any unknown heart problems. I just know I can’t live like this. What do you do for bone density?
Well, it's easy for me as I've had no spinal fractures (although I've lost significant height I think it is narrowing of the spaces between the vertebrae, not fractures). So I haven't used any medication. I'll give you the link to my story because I don't think there is anything I've done which wouldn't also help most people, especially if they are, as you are, on a med which can only be used for a short time.
