Mum back in hospital.

She took 3 funny turns today. One was in front of the paramedics. No wonder she has been so unwell she has....Low potassium

Low Calcium

Low Magnesium

That looks like it is affecting the electrodrods in her heart.

So she is being hooked up to heart monitor and a drip during the night.

I'm tired, I'm worried but after so long fighting for her to be taken away and sorted she is there.

Yum, all I've done is cry, when you know someone is unwell and you just want someone to listen. I actually cried on the 999 call. But I'm pleased she's in there I really am. 🤗

Ahh I don't blame you I would be the same if anything ever happened like that to my mum x 😘❤️. You have done so well to help your mum. Have they said what's causing the low calcium and magnesium??

Medication can deplete electrolytes, the doctors or pharmacist should know which ones.

Wingnutty profile image
Wingnutty in reply to bee2

Particularly, diuretics which cause you to pee them out. I was dangerously low on sodium and potassium after taking furosemide and the infrequency of blood tests contributed to the problem because it went unrecognised for a long time.

bee2 profile image
bee2 in reply to Wingnutty

BP meds too they have messed up my system. I was told I needed monthly blood tests but now my GP no longer does bloods you have to wait for the GP to refer you!

Really really glad to hear your mom's problem has come to light! It has been a terribly stressful time for you 😪

I can totally understand. I still can't get my mom referred to a specialist as no one is really listening or can understand what i am trying to convey?!! Terribly frustrating and stressful.

God bless you and your mom. Please continue to update us if you have the time.

Best wishes.

She’s in the best place now. Although not the best, having a funny turn in front of the paramedics probably helped them see how unwell she was and that she needed medical attention.

I hope you can get some rest tonight knowing she is being looked after in hospital.

Take care.

As much as today has probably been a huge ordeal for you both, I’m SO pleased that you’ve been heard! Well done to you for persevering for your lovely Mum; you shouldn’t have to but at least she’s being cared for now!

I know it’s easier said than done but try to use tonight to get some respite and hopefully she’ll be feeling brighter in the morning and they’ll know more about what’s going on 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I’m sending so much love and I will be thinking of you both.

Thank you for updating us, hope to hear better news very soon 🤗

Best wishes

No wonder she's poorly if she's low on all of those. I was very low on sodium just before Xmas last year and was really not very well . A stay in hospital sorted it out and I am sure that's what they will do for your Mum. I know it's been worrying but she's being seen to now and they will give her appropriate meds to stabilise her. I hope she's home soon and is ok x

Your poor mum.🥲 I feel for you as I had numerous medical issues with my dear mother. If the doctor had done the correct blood test your mum more then lightly would not have ended up in the poor health she is in. I hope your mum now gets the proper care & attention she has long waited for. Good Luck.

I too suffered this and required hospitalisation for 3 days. Low potassium etc really makes your heart do weird things and makes you feel dreadful. I do hope now your Mum is back home and feeling much better soon.

I had similar a few years ago, 3 days in hospital being fed fizzy potassium tablets. Symptoms not as bad as your Mums but as I have Parox. Afb heart rate/beat all over the place. Culprit was Lansoprozole? and I wasn't having proper blood test to check levels. Hospital stopped that medication and I now have regular blood tests to keep an eye on various levels. Hope your Mum feels better soon and gets her meds sorted i f that is the problem.

I thought I'd never have to say what good news when someone's taken into hospital but it really is good that they will now sort her out. You must be so relieved. Always listen to your instincts.

Charmquark profile image
Charmquark in reply to Qualipop

I'm pleased I did, they are moving her to a general ward. Didn't say when but that's where she is going. Possibly home tomorrow. But as long as she is ok when she gets out I'm not bothered where they put her lol. X

Update....Mum called me, they have changed her water pill and her new heart one. They have gave her calcium, potassium and Magnesium through the drip that was last night. Her BP is a little low but ok, if everything goes ok tonight, she will possibly be home tomorrow. X

Hi Charmquark, it's good they're listening now and hopefully the change in the medication will stop all the funny turns which I know are very frightening to see and undergo too. Looks like you found the answer as to what was causing them. I would check she has all the meds she needs when being discharged if possible, and I hope things start to settle down soon now as she adjusts to new meds and you both start to heal 🤞🙏. Best wishes and speedy recovery to your mum x

Just a quick update on mam.

She's been confused while in hospital however just found out today that she is on very strong pain killers for the pain she's been getting in her belly. As we found out yesterday that it is gallbladder cancer and it's spread to her liver. We haven't had a care plan put 8n place by cancer specialists yet. But she is getting home tomorrow, so we can at least make her comfortable. To say I'm devastated is an understatement. It's an aggressive cancer but...I dread to think how things would be if I hadn't pushed for her to go back into hospital. I will still be around and I'm truly grateful to each and every one of you. Xxx

One last update.....

My mum died on Monday at 12.51pm. She had a horrible few days and Monday her body had had enough. She was at home and all the family was with her. She had one of her funny turns, fitted, then went unconscious and didn't wake up. I am very traumatised. Thank you all for your kind comments and info over the past few months. I've appreciated everyone.

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
