Hi has anyone tried the nucala. injections as an add on treatment for asthma? I was on the programme and after 6 injections it has been stopped due to me still needing high dose steroids. I have had flu and chest infection for a month so on antibiotics and steroids at min. Does any one know of any other treatments i could suggest to my consultant? I take Ventolin inhaler and nebuliser, spiriva respimat , symbicort and pred tablets daily. Did nucala work for anyone in here. Thank you

There’s a lot of Posts on this Site about this drug under what seems to be its more familiar name (Mepolizumab).

If you’ve not already searched the Site under that name, doing so might provide you with additional info.

I’ve not used the drug so am unable to comment on it but have not seen many Posts relating to any of the Asthma Biological Drugs (including Mepo) that are particularly encouraging. However, disappointed Biological Drug Users may be inclined to comment more often than those with good results who possibly stop using the Forum once they are Asthma Free or much improved.

Hello

Sorry to hear your asthma symptoms are bad. I think there is another biologic injection in addition to nucala and xoliar, beginning with C, (sorry, I can't remember) but it may not be available in all parts of the uk. I think there is some info about the different biologics / injections on the asthma uk website in the severe asthma pages.

I am waiting to try nucala / mepolixumab, but told I have to have 2 more xoliar injections before I can try nucala, even tho its not working and I feel worse since I started

I was told that xoliar needs to be taken for 16 weeks before they review it, and nucala for 52 weeks before they assess its effectiveness overall, so not sure why they stopped your nucala after 6 months ...

Really hope things improve for you

Hi I am on Nucala, I have 11 injections up to now, and I have managed to stop taking my Deflezacort steroids,

I have been off them for nearly 3 months now, sometimes though I have had a few bad nights with coughing up mucus and sometimes during the day, I put it down to the weather, now the weather is a little bit warmer I seem to be doing ok,all though I still have my daily bouts of coughing.

I have the rare type of asthma

which is esnophilliac only one in in 10 seem to have this type of asthma, I am due for my 12 injection on the 25 of May, I have to have anot blood test to see if my blood count for my type of asthma is normal , then I have to see my specialist for the results, I shall mention to him that I am still producing mucus and see what he has to say, at the moment I am feeling a little bit better with having this injection than I was before.
