Hi. I haven't posted for a few months as I have been very pleased with the results of being on Nucala. On Friday I had my 6th monthly injection. On the same night I experienced a nightmare...huge black spiders multiplying at a rapid rate on the walls. On Saturday night it was lizards. Whilst upstairs on Sunday I saw my husband but he was downstairs!
I rang the Respiratory Clinic yesterday hoping they might say it can be a side effect but no one else seems to have had this problem. I am now waiting to hear from the hosptial chemist who will check all my medications.
I know this is a shot in the dark but has anyone experienced hallucinations with Nucala?

That sounds really distressing. The only hallucinations I experienced was a result of antibiotics, and I had taken them before, but out of the blue had a bad reaction. I imagined my pillows and bed were infested with rats; it seemed so real. My GP was less than sympathetic and said that I'd be hearing voices next, but he did change the antibiotics.
Even though hallucinations aren't listed as a known side effect of Nucala, that doesn't mean it's not the cause. Stick to your guns and request that the instance is reported on the yellow card system via the pharmacist.
I know Montelukast can cause hallucinations, but the pharmacist would have checked your current medications, just in case something else was triggering your hallucinations.
Your prescribing doctor should be monitoring you after reporting your experience, so follow up with them. They do have a duty of care.
Thank you Poobah. That sounds worse than big black spiders! Montelukast was mentioned when I contacted the hospital, apparently they are well known for hallucinations. I do take one every evening but have been on them for about 3 years with no problems.
It really is a conundrum. I don't particularly want to change from Nucala... it could be a case of from the frying pan into the fire.
I am relieved to say the hallucinations have gone. They happened over the weekend after the injection on the Friday. On Sunday evening I saw black spots on the carpet at least it wasn't spiders! I am dreaming more than ever at the moment ....just don't know what's causing the disturbance. I am not looking forward to my next injection.
