Spiriva
Hi i'm on spiriva have been now for a few years I have had good times with it seems to help me ok i'm on steriods 50mg daily and other stuff with mine got brittle asthma speand a lot of time in hospital and have the hydrocortisone iv every two months but the spiriva I find has helped me x
I've been on it for over 10 yrs. It certainly makes a difference almost immediately. I've recently started on RELVAR and the results are dramatic!! Hardly used VENTOLIN since I started on it!
Spiriva or tiotropium can work very well in asthmatics who are uncontrolled and having exacerbations. They give a protective element and help reduce exacerbations or prevent them being as bad. It has been used for years in COPD with good effect . Hope it helps x
I was prescribed Spiriva a few months ago and it has made a difference. It's commonly used to treat COPD but apparently it is increasingly prescribed for asthma. I hope things improve for you.
Thanks everyone. Like to know what I'm taking and there is no one better to ask than fellow sufferers. Hope you all have a wheeze free Christmas.
Hello Shassh,
I take Spiriva on a daily basis two years now and it is working ok for me. In fact, I never knew of anybody to whom it did bad. Sorry. It is supposed to open the alveoli. Actually, I am taking it now, cheers and Merry Christmas.
I have been on Spiriva 12+ years it has helped with exacerbations.
I was put on 200/6 Fostair 3 months ago, this has helped a great deal my peak flows are regularly 500+, its the 1st time in about 3 years I've been at that level, it had dropped 400/430, I have been on Xolair injections (x4) every month since March 2013 but I have had a couple of stays in hospital earlier this year so they are going to try me on the new Mepolizumab (Nucala) injections in March next year,
Hi .... been on spiriva for 3 years, also xolair and 25 mg of pred + many other meds ....... commonly prescribed for copd .
Hi I have been on xolair 600mg,4 injections for 3 years and wasn't seeing an improvement, the nurse said to me ask your GP for spiriva which I did and got it.
I had occular pressure side effects and was then put onto Seebri breezhaler again with pressure behind the eyes and no improvement in my breathing.
After 3 years last issue of pneumonia, also coughing up blood and worse than I've ever been, I took the decision to stop xolair.
I was seen be respiratory matron who said she agreed with my decision and didn't feel it was helping, however the LABA ie spiriva was the one prescribed for COPD. She said the one for asthma is only spiriva respimat!!!
I couldn't believe it. After my GP arranged a high resolution CT I have some areas of collapse in my lungs from scar tissue and inflammation so was put onto a strong antibiotic and commenced Uniphyllin 200mg twice daily to slowly increase.
Thank God I'm seeing her in 2 months rather than the fool of a respiratory consultant. If the uniphyllin doesn't help then I'll start 'spiriva respimat' which is the one licensed only for asthma. I feel I wish I'd stopped xolair sooner but one respiratory nurse used to say think how you'd be without it, fear tactics when this matron gave me a good 30/40 minute consultation and agreed with everything I'd said.
If only I'd seen her sooner. I'm day 4 after starting uniphyllin and peak flow has increased up to 330 from 250 when I used to get 450 before xolair.
Good luck :))
