I posted a few weeks ago I had been put on Spiriva on my asthma nurse I've been taking it for about three weeks now and I'm having very Vivid dreams ... not always nightmares but some strange stuff which I always remember in the morning, also had more headaches than usual, think this may be down to my lack of sleep though. Peak flow on the other hand has been amazing. Anyone else experienced similar?

Hi shassh. Glad Spiriva is helping your peak flow, it's made a big difference to mine too. I've been on it over a year now. I haven't had any more weird dreams than usual, but I do get a lot of headaches, not dreadful ones but unpleasant nevertheless! I wake up with a headache several times a week, & sometimes it lasts all day or even several days at a time. Paracetamol doesn't do much. I've discovered the best thing is to do some simple neck & shoulder stretches, and also massage the jaw and face with my fingertips. This really works for me, thank goodness, as I'd hate to come off Spiriva. You can find tips for stretches & massaging on the internet.

Thanks my headaches are not too bad, I'm just not used to getting headaches paracetamol usually sorts them out. It's made such a difference to my breathing I hope I can stay on it.

First of all, it's brilliant that your breathing is better. I hope that continues & your quality of life improves with it.

With regard to your dreams, I wouldn't worry too much unless they are causing you distress or you feel disturbed by them. Dreams are, in effect, your brain processing everything that's going on in your life & are generally regarded by psychologists as a good thing. Are you sleeping longer or deeper now that your breathing has improved? If so, I'd say that's the most likely explanation for them.

They are by their nature surreal so will appear very strange when you remember them. Only if they reach a point where they cause regular upset, fear, etc., or if you have recurring nightmares would I start to worry about them.

I too started on Spiriva and had vivid dreams:

1st dream after using for a week ( diving in the surf through waves).

Ended on the floor scuffed my elbow and head. Scary so to my doctor who was puzzled.

Stopped Spiriva for a week but then decided don't be silly once off.

2nd dream vivid again(snake looking at me and then going down a hole) ended on floor, broke my Hip 2 weeks in hospital.

I've been home 2 weeks, bought a bed rail and thinking .Do I really need Spiriva.

Still thinking and digesting all that has happened over last 6 weeks
