Spiriva Respimat

Hi,

I have just been prescribed spiriva respimat and have been taking it for the last two days. As well as asthma, I suffer with excema and yesterday the skin on my face has flared up and is red, puffy, warm and itchy. It's extremely sore. I have read about some of the side effects from using spiriva respimat and it lists, to quote, "skin rash or raised red patches on the skin, itchiness, flushing (warmth and redness in your skin". I am wondering if my skin has flared up because of using this medication?

Has anyone else had these side effects from using spiriva respimat please?

Thanks

I haven’t Teach66, but I would stop taking it until you have consulted your GP/nurse/pharmacist. It could be an allergic reaction so I’d be inclined to err on the side of caution.

Hi Troilus,

I think I will ring my surgery tomorrow and tell them and see what they say.

Thank you for your reply x

It sounds a bit worrying. I agree with Troilus, I wouldn’t take any more until you’ve spoken to your gp

I use Spiriva respimat and have eczema but not any reaction. Talk to either your doctor or pharmacist as soon as you can

Hi, agree with others to check with your dr/pharmacist on this. Better to be safe than sorry!

This type of reaction seems to be possible with Spiriva but rare - it's listed in the product label as occurring in about 0.01-0.1% of people with asthma in the clinical trials and afterwards in the monitoring they do. If you and your GP think it is due to Spiriva then it may be worth reporting a suspected reaction through the Yellow Card Scheme. yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Because it is listed as rare, while it's good to be cautious about the Spiriva because rare doesn't mean the reaction is impossible, it's also worth thinking if anything you used around the same time could have caused this.
