I had my stepmom rub my back this evening and when she hit the area where I feel the arthritis in the upper part of mt back it hurt worse when she hit that area to massage it. It hurt bad enough for me to yell out ouch. What should I do about this or is there anything that can be done? Need suggestions please thanks for you reply in advanced.

Hi,

By upper part of back, do you mean spine or shoulders? If spine, don’t think there’s a lot that can be done, or shoulders then surgery is possible.

However you need medical advice as to what exactly it is first.

I'm referring to the upper part of my spine. I fear with it the way it is now that it'll eventually effect my spinal cord.

Consult a good osteopath. Take the last x-ray of it that you have of the problem with you, so he can see what was happening then. He will know how to work on the muscles so you are not in so much pain when they are touched. This experience could be flagging up the way forward for you.

Polski, I haven't had that part of my spine x-rayed yet but when I go to my gp monday I'm going to bring it to his attention and probably ask for it to be x-rayed.

Then don't assume it is arthritis, it may just be muscular, in which case the osteopath should definitely be able to help.
