Hi..Im new here..I have been experiencing upper back pain for about 4 weeks now..The muscle pain is subsiding a bit, but I have been left with a horrible deep pain in my spine below my shoulders (dr google says pancreatic cancer!)..The thing is I had an accident about 3years ago when I compressed 2 vertebrae T6 and T8)..The pain is in the same area..Does anyone know if you can get arthritis from an old injury?..Many thanks...
Osteo after an injury?: Hi..Im new here..I... - Arthritis Action
Osteo after an injury?
I'm sure you can, debbiejayn! I would start of with the website Versus Arthritis and Arthritis Action.
There are many supplements you can buy that might help you. Also, a visit to an osteopath might be beneficial
Thankyou HappyRosie.!..I will have a look at supplements. To be honest I did panic a bit..The pain is really deep and horrible.. (Dr Google mentioned Pancreatic cancer in relation to upper back pain !)but I think it's too much of a coincidence that I have an old injury in that area...thanks again..Keep well..debbijayn
Also, if you are on good terms with a pharmacist, ask him/her for advice. My husband takes magnesium but it does nothing for me. I take Glucosomine with Chondroitin, great for arthritis toes and knees, but this does nothing for my husband. We both tried rosehip supplements - no good for either of us!
Yes I think so. I had a bad fall in 2013 and my right ankle and left knee have troubled me ever since. They are always painful, and then I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis as well. My consultant assures me the knee and ankle pain are mainly osteoarthritis. ☹️
Hi debbiejayn , sorry to hear that you're experiencing pain in your spine at the moment.
You're right, having an injury (for example a sporting injury or broken bone, such as your compressed vertebrae) can increase the risk of osteoarthritis in later life. However, the only real way of knowing would be to speak to a healthcare professional who can give you advice and feedback based on your own health history and circumstances.
It may be worth reading up on what arthritis is, so that you're prepared for a conversation with your healthcare professional in advance. The Arthritis Action website has some useful pages on what arthritis is:

Hope this helps, please do keep us updated with how you get on!
Thankyou for your reply..I've just managed to book a phone consultation with my GP on friday and he said that he will see me in the surgery afterwards if he thinks he needs to..initially managed to trip and land with my spine on the kerb stone.! have had a few falls since. One a couple of months ago.(I'm only 60 but have failing sight so definately a tripping risk!...awaiting a corneal transplant)Anyway I'm very grateful of your advice and will have a look at your website..
Hi there,
Well I believe so, absolutely. All my osteoarthritic pain comes from joints and surrounding soft tissue areas which I had injured years and years ago. Left shoulder, right shoulder, right knee ( although a partial knee replacement fixed the knee problem).
John
Thankyou John..I'm glad that your knee got sorted!.As mentioned I have definate bone type pain in my spine in the area I had 2 compressed vertebrae following an accident about 3 years ago.I am a bit concerned because I read that upper back pain is a red flag symptom ..It just seems very coincidental that my pain relates to where the damage was Managed to get a phone GP appt on friday so see what he says..
