Hi beech

Yes I did, and a tablet called xanax. I only used it when I absolutely needed it, I started with a weeks worth and was on it for 30 yrs, maybe once a week.

I kicked it 3 yrs ago, and glad I did to be honest, but it did allow me to study, have a career, etc.

i dont think they like giving it out these days though

Hi Beechcroft,

I have just been prescribed diazepam (2mg tabs) by my GP for my anxiety which reached new heights recently. It kicked off when I returned from holiday in February, when I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation, and put on warfarin prior to a heart cardioversion. I can't take a beta-blocker because of the heart problem,

I have a holiday planned in the USA in 3 weeks time and my anxiety rocketted having paid an exorbitant sum to get travel insurance, which got me worrying over my heart problem!! Haven't got enough time for anti-depressants to kick in, so vallium was the only way I can go. My GP has stressed that they should only be taken on an "as and when necessary" basis and advised on the dangers of dependance if taken for extended periods. She has only given me a months supply (assuming 1 x 2mg per day) but could last longer if I reduce the dosage. She also said NOT to exceed 3 x 2mg tablets per day. I am struggling with anxiety a little bit (well a lot really) but am avoiding starting taking them unless absolutely necessary, i.e if I get close to jeopardising the holiday for my wife and 2 friends who are travelling with us..

Hope this puts the "diazepam" thing in perspective for you.

Good luck and kind regards, Mallet-head

hi beechcroft,I really dont know why drs make a big deal about diazapam,or xanax,I was given diazapam 30 years ago, when I was pregnant, and dr said, this are on the go years, and won't do me or the baby any harm,I was told to take one 2mg tablet 3 times daily,I changed to xanax, after baby was born, cause diazapam was leaving me very tired, i take 0.5mg of xanax 3 times daily now,and they havan't done me any harm, drs would rather give out a/ds or beta blockers, they can be just as addictive, and be very hard to come off,if I get relief from xanax, why not take them, life is too short, and everybody has to take meds for all kinds of ailments,so if you take them when you need them and don't abuse them,I honestly don't see the harm..this is my opinion anyway god bless.xxxx

Great post Miarose. Thank you. Doctors go hysterical when you mention Diazepam.

Diazepa is so helpful for people. And today it is tragic so many people are being denied them because of all the hysteria.

In fact, coming off beat-blockers is much worse of a withdrawl. Your post was spot on.

I'd like to hear one doctor explain in detail just what they mean when they use the word "addictive". As it happens, I fully understand the word myself. But lots of people are getting palmed off by doctors who use the word "Addictive" but do not give a satisfactory explanation of what they mean and how people get into the state.

Addiciton is horrible, I know. But when you have nowhere to turn and are tormented with anxiety and panic, then Diazepam can be lierally a lifesaver .

If doctors would take the time to spell out precisely the how one gets addicted, instead of behaving hysterically, then more people would at least know beforehand how to avoid it.

Beta blockers, pre-Gablin, and some abti-depressants are terrible to get off, et the doctors are pushing these as if they are chocolates.

Thank you for your post, God bless, Vince :)
