i have just been diagnosed as having PSTD. i have always suffered from minor mental health problems since i was a teenager. this however is completly new to me and is occuring after a particularly traumatising and heartbreaking event in my life aprox one month ago. Im half releived that i can put a name to my current state as not understanding whats happening to you is horrible. but because its new i have not developed any coping mechanisms to deal with it until i get proffesional help in two weeks time. Is there ANYTHING i can do or eat to help myself because its a horrible thing to be suffering and very very difficult to explain to my family as one of the symptoms is blocking the event from my conciousness.

Hey there I too have PTSD and have had professional help. It's not so long ago that I felt like you but the therapy has helped massively. I was having flashbacks and couldnt share any of what i was experiencing with anyone. You really need to take care of yourself(hard I know) but try to eat and rest when you can. Have they given you an exercise to do before your treatment? You can mail me separately if it helps love eve x

Hi I woke one morning in a terrible state and rang my therapist she told me to practise a safe place technique and it really does work but you have to keep practising. Think of a time when you were really happy either on holiday or a wedding or special event anything where you were in a good place. Hold the image in your mind and try to bring it alive as much as you can. For example mine was being on a boat on holiday so I visualised the boat and noticed the colour of the sky and the waves gently lapping and then what we were wearing. It takes time to master but you need to practise 3 times a day. When you feel like you cant cope bring this image into your mind. hope this helps hun take care love eve x

Eve thanks so much for this im going to start right now x

Hi, sorry you are suffering so badly...I am sure treatment will help, meanwhile perhaps you can be really kind to yourself, the symptoms you are experiencing are completely normal after such a traumatising and heartbreaking event. There will be a time when you can talk more freely about this, if you want to.....but for now look after yourself, you need a little tender loving care. Good luck and warm wishes...Babushka xx

Can I ask what happened? I had something awful happen to me at one time in my life in which lead to PTSD as a young teen. I am now in my 40's but maybe I can help you.
