I have been suffering depression + really bad anxiety for at least 5 years. must have been to docs at least 20 times for changes in medication etc. over the last 2years the anxiety has been so bad have been feeling suicidal at times. doc has decided to send me for a referral to a psychiatrist to get a proper diagnosis. anybody out there got any experience of psychiatry. will they really be able to help. Hi

I've been suffering depression and anxiety on and off for about 6 years now I had a baby who is nearly a year old and it got progressively worse over the last year. I too have been on lots of different medications and I also had suicidal thoughts as well. I'm now on escitalopram and beta blockers. I was referred to a mental health group which I attend every 3 weeks sometimes weekly. My horrible thoughts have now subsided but I know they are still at the back of my mind but I do feel easier about this. Please try and talk to someone and let them know how your feeling don't suffer in silence. Good luck x

thanks , that really helps, good luck to you as well .x

I left a comment for the first time yesterday and what you say is rather like my anxiety problems which I have suffered all my life. I have recently been referred to my local mental health team who have made all the difference for me. GP's have only so much knowledge about mental health issues and its better to get help from the experts I think. Good luck

thanks for that john. nice to know others in the same boat x

Hi,

I have been referred to a psychiatrist and have been going since last year. They are good to talk to and have said that with some support and work at a few things myself I can get through the depression and anxiety. I had been feeling better in myself but recently the old anxiety etc came back with a vengeance! I would say that look at it as a positive practice and the are there to help you, be honest and let them know how you feel

Good luck and let us know how you get on ;-)
