Since the end of Oct I've lost the ability to sleep and I was wondering if any body else suffers with this. I can go 4 nights with no sleep and I'm exhausted ; ( My therapy is going well and I'm making progress with my anxiety but still can't sleep! I've been to the docs who eventually prescribed sleeping tablets only for 3 nights but I'm too scared to take them. Silly I know. Would welcome any advice.

I thought of all the music or songs that would make me emotionally feel good. Maybe ones that held memories, or just easy listening songs that i Liked (stay another day--east17). I did eventually find some relaxing/haunting music in a tai-chi album called "sunrise" and guess what---went to bed with my earphones and listened, before long I never heard the end of the album........must be worth a try...xxxx
Hi Jayne I have to be the world's biggest sceptic so the thought of drinking herbal hot beverages to aid sleep seemed a bit of a waste of money so I 'borrowed' some from work, chamomile it was and it worked a treat. I know it was the chamomile rather than sheer exhaustion as I felt like I'd taken something, not in a bad way.
I am a bit believer in Chamomile tea too. It takes the edge off whatever feelings you might be having before you drift off to sleep.
I also find that sometime a good cry can just make you feel that bit exhausted to fall asleep, but obviously only if you are in that kind of a mood! Don't make yourself cry if you feel happy of course!!!
Hi. jayne. "I am not going to sleep until I have sorted out this sleep problem". Sounds silly I know but isn't that the cause of the trouble? When we can't sleep our minds keep going around in circles as to what will happen if we can't sleep. More anxiety more fear. I think the advice given above is as sound as you will get. But in the long term you have to try and take the fear out of the situation. In the short term I can't suggest anything better than what stde and hollow have said. Give it a try. Best wishes. jonathan.
I found that wen I was first hit with anxiety I cudnt sleep probley I had that much fear of anxiety it was constantly on my mind. I listen to my head fones in bed, which helps me ralax x
