Phobia.: Does anyone know what type of... - Anxiety Support
Phobia.
Hi. mimisings. A' phobia', as you probably know, is an irrational fear of something. A common symptom of nervous illness. Has your GP given you any assurance about the possible effects of medication? Have you talked to them about it? Are you afraid of the side effects? Only your GP can decide what sort of medicine you should have. On this site we can only really suggest things like vitamins, and then only from our personal experience. Even vitamins vary in their effects from person to person. Any phobia can be treated. Perhaps you may want to come back and let us know how you are feeling. Best wishes. jonathan.
I just googled "medication phobia" and here were some interesting articles. In theory, anyone who does CBT and is good at it, should be able to adapt that model of treatment to suit your phobia.
Speak to your GP about how to access CBT in your area, I'm sure if you get a good therapist you will find that they can help you.
Hello.
I also have phobias including dental and anaesthetic phobias. I have found that hypnotherapy has helped to some degree. I am also now having CBT for these and other anxiety related issues.
Love and best wishes.

Thank you all for your replies, I have been to several therapist yet still struggling with this issue I will keep looking, exactly what is CBT !!!!! Bless you for your help xx
Hi. mim. CBT. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. It is an offshoot from the 'Behavioural' therapies the were all the go in the 70's and 80's. Like them, it will probaly be superseded by something else. I tried it but found it rather superficial, but that is a personal view. Some seem to benefit from it. I would not 'knock' anything that helps.
There is a proliferation of therapies out there at the moment and I would suggest research before going in to any. If you look up the Anxiety UK website you will find what are, to me, the tried and trusted ones. Keep well (Or as well as you can at the moment!). Love. jonathan.
Hi Mimisings,I have the same problem, won't take anything, only xanax and panadol.if i have to take antibiotics I google them to see what side effects there is,I took a panic attack after taking nurafen for the flu..and the antibiotics are still in the cuboard,Had you a scare with meds, cause thats what happened me,don't know how to overcome it ,sorry,I wish Icould be more help..xx
Cbt is as Jonathan said, it is a way to look at your thinking and challange its reality! And the way you interpret them. For me it was to hard to do when I was depressed as I could not focus but is good to do after when you are stronger and maybe prevent a relapse ( that is if you can find the time to fit it in when you have started to Live again and re joined the hectic fast pased modern modern rat race) It is no wonder there is so much anxiety and depression when we feel we have to live at 100 mph and compete for everything! Money and possession s do not make us happy. Chill and look around at nature notice the small things we take for granted, the wild life, the view, and be in that moment! Things in my experience always work themselves out eventually. Steve
Thankyou an yes trying to take things slower an I know it will work out bless you have a wonderful day
