Anticipation.

Hi All. This can be a nightmare as ellabella's recent blog will tell you. It can be one of the worse symptoms of nervous illness. There is an interesting little story that may help. There was an Alpine village over which hung an enormous amount of snow that had collected over the years. For ages the villagers feared, that if they made a noise; slamming a door or even shouting it would cause an avalanche, so they walked about on tiptoe and spoke in whispers. One day a hunter came to the village and, while cleaning his gun, inadvertently fired a shot. With a great roar the avalanche began it's decent down the mountain......and missed the village by half a mile! Anticipation is like this. It is never as bad as it seems. We can look back and wonder what on earth we were afraid of. Kind regards. jonathan.

Nice one, Jonathan! :) My mum had a saying:-

"Fear knocked on the door; Faith answered it, and there was no-one there!"

Hi BriarRose. How absolutely lovely! Very often a short line can have more meaning than a whole book. Thank you. Best wishes. jonathan.

Hi jonathan, this afternoon after leaving work walking to take the train, i had this nasty cough, i had it few times now and always comes in a awkward time, like i was on the train with plenty of people (rush hour) and suddenly my throat started to tighten and this dry almost like a cough or what sounds like gasping for air, it lasted for like 30 seconds, which i almost felt like fainting, couldn't breathe properly, but then you came across my mind, suddenly JONATHAN was flashing in my head, don't panic :) and don't fear, i did not but i was very annoyed cz i don't know where these things are coming from, i mean just from nowhere i started shocking, never mind i took some water and managed to keep my calm, hard when people looking at you, happened again 10mins after that, my body felt really tired after that, till now although i am on my sofa relaxing.

anyways what i want to say a big thx as in a horrible state your word just flashed in my head and helped me.

God bless you

:)

Hi rouri. Throat tightening is a common symptom, as is a cough especially in awkward places (supermarket, train etc). My wife and I were discussing this very thing recently. (She also, when young, had our problem). The fact is that no one is looking at us, we just think they are. In a public place the feelings have to be felt to be believed. They are horrible and the desire to run away is overwhelming. All the symptoms you describe are those of a panic attack (As you already know). Don't look for a reason for the attack; it could be anything and to go looking only creates more anxiety. A multitude of things could start it. Of course your body felt tired. Who wouldn't when we flog ourselves as we do!! I do not think I said don't panic. Let it come; go through it with as much acceptance as you can muster and do not add SECOND FEAR. "Oh my goodness, where has this come from; I will never get over this; they are all looking at me; I must get out of here. Help, help" and so on. The good old "fight or flight" syndrome has clicked in. By what you say you have succeeded in spite of your fears. You may not think so but you had a positive thought in the middle of it all. Glad to have been of help. Bless you and good wishes. jonathan.
