Fear of going to sleep?

Does anyone experience a huge sense of dread when going to sleep? I get palpitations, pins and needles, feel light headed, hot flushes, dry mouth etc every night and nothing seems to help to make symptoms better. Any ideas what I could try?

Thanks, pat

hi pat, this is severe anxiety, I deal with this every day, sometimes one at the time and sometimes it come alltogether. make sure you drink plenty of water, don't eat late, go to sleep when you are very sleepy, drink some herbal tea 30mins before going to bed. this will help a bit i should hope so.

hi pat, this happens to me a few nights every month and it is a horrible experience. i've found the only way to get through it is talking to myself. Have your rational self talk to your irrational self. also when it gets really bad for me I accept that my next breath is going to be my last and run through all that I regret and tell myself to let it go. i must bore myself to sleep as i always wake up in the morning.

it is a nasty anxiety thing I agree.. I have a bedtime ritual .. I use Lavender gel on my upper body (lovely when the weather is hot ) sprinkle lavender essential oil on my pillow.. and a herbal gel on my wrists (cammomile).. read a little , then dim the lamp a little ..It may sound a bit silly but I got some lovely soft bed linen as a treat so that it made me look forward to bed.. also I keep a wind up torch to hand in case I have a panic attack at night so I don't disturb hubby by putting on the lamp.. If I cannot sleep I imagine that I have won the lotto and lay and decide how to divide it between the family and spend it lol.. it may sound a bit silly but it helps me .. good luck x

Pat, I do have of going to sleep and I have a fear of breathing, walking, talking, eating, drinking and so on.... I see am not alone such fears are awful that it causes me to have physical pains over entire body. I think every little ache and pain is life threatening, that's the bottom line! Am so sick of being sick and tired from over analyzing something that don't exists. Thanks for all the support we have on these forums it really helps me in knowing am not alone!

I know it sounds silly but have you tried watching a film and letting yourself fall asleep to it? I quite like the background noise. Failing that, some people like falling asleep to the sound of a hoover!! You could ask a friend to come and Hoover for you, that way you get to sleep AND you get a free cleaner!!

Thank you all for your tips and tricks! I have tried all sorts, from reading to watching telly to playing games and listening to music. It doesn't seem to help. I am extremely rational about my anxieties and yet I cannot stop the feeling of doom! I feel out of control and I hate being out of control! I haven't slept properly for six months now on top of not ever really sleeping great anyway as I also got chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. The Hoover seems like a fab idea, although I think I'll struggle to find a moonlighting cleaner! Lol. But all this aside, it's good to know that there are others out there going through very similar issues, which is comforting and doesn't make me feel quite so crazy! Thanks again for all your input, it really means a lot! Xxx

You are probably owning your insomnia. It is a habit that needs to be recognized as such and changed your own thoughts. I was also having that same problems before and I went to the doctor who prescribed sleeping pills. I hated taking the Pills as they made me woozy and even more spaced out and decided this wasn't the answer. A good friend of mine gave me this KECHARA HAYAGRIVA CHAKRAS that he bought last year when he started his Asia Tour. He said, It prevents obstacles and bad dreams. At first I was skeptical to believe about this but since it was a gift and also I badly wanted to end this anxiety. I kept it beside me. For whatever power it does to me, this CHAKRAS actually helped me have a good night sleep to this day. I hope my problem is similar enough to yours that it allows my solutions to be in some way helpful to you.
