anyone in North Carolina that has a doctor that’s NOT going to try to reinvent the wheel? I’m new here and no one I’ve found is willing to keep me on my medication combination I’ve been on for over 25 years. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I have absolutely zero interest in changing what works

Hi KnotDisclosed. Welcome to our support community...
I so hear you. Why fix what's not broken. I'm at that
same place right now with my meds and hope each time
I go in that someone doesn't want to make a change.
It took a long time to get where I'm at. Wish you well xx
I recently lost my psychiatrist due to retirement and we were together for 20 years! I had to interview five new practices until I found the one willing to work with my current treatment plan. We made a few tweaks but mostly was able to stay on everything. This includes long term use of valium, ambien and then remeron for depression. I am lucky that I haven't really had issues coming on and off of benzos as long as it is done at the right pace. Mostly for my pregnancies was when I stopped all meds in pretty short order. Why fix what isn't broken? I know it may take time to find the right fit....but keep at it. I also had some support from my therapist who shared some insights with my psychiatrist. She is a big advocate of the right fit or it won't work. You need someone with some empathy and too often med mgmt appointments are 5-15 minutes. Totally nuts.
I do. I'll message you.
I have a psychiatrist that is not an idiot and medical doctor that is an idiot regarding depression. My medical doctor suggested getting one of those bright light things to use in the winter to ease my depression. She is crazy!! My depression is as bad in the summer as it is in the winter so the light will not help!!! I am in complete remission from my depression now, and I certainly hope it will stay this way, thanks to my psychiatrist who finally found the right antidepressant for me. I had been on Zoloft on and off since the 90's and it finally wore off on me. I am now on Wellbutrin and Lexapro.
Hello,
I don’t know of a psychiatrist in NC, however I would keep looking. My best advice is to go in very respectfully to the doctor you see rather than entering as a —- for lack of a better description —— “know it all.” They are more likely going to listen to you if you humbly approach them. This has worked for my kids and I!
You do know that if if it’s a benzo you’re on, whether it works or not, it is not a drug that should be used long term….Your Drs are not idiots. they are following the rules of practicing medicine ..”do no harm”..They have learned throughout the years that benzos are not the drug of choice for long term use..🤷🏻♀️

NC is a large state. What kind of medication? My psych PA is very reasonable. But she’s in Louisburg.
