Anxiety from excersise

Has anyone felt more anxious during and after exercise? Being out of breath from exercise is super uncomfortable for me and my chest feels tight and burns. It feels like symptoms from anxiety. I thought exercise was supposed to help.

Yeah I've been having acid reflux and gagging lately.

I'm taking zoloft and its not working well anymore even though it used to. My doctor prescribed Mirzapine to me yesterday.

Yeah I haven't started mirtazapine and I don't really think its the solution for me. When I'm not anxious I'm not depressed. I just need something to treat the anxiety

Yeah I've tried that and it worked really well for a long time and then this same kind of thing happened.

It used to happen to me all the time. I think it's because exercise can even provoke anxiety and makes more adrenalin and other 'fight or flight' hormones. Nowadays, being old, at 77, I still get discomfort when walking briskly for 40 minutes a day, but rarely panic attacks and the jittery feelings but more discomfort, most of which is still caused by underlying anxiety as there seems to be no detectable physical cause.

good morning I had the same thing that you I never did. I always was able to do my treadmill with no problem and now I get the same way very anxious. I’m lucky I can go on it for 10 minutes. I don’t know what that’s all about. Interesting to see if anybody does, I thought exercise was supposed to call me down when you have bad anxiety doesn’t work that way anymore I mean even deep breathing. Somehow we have to get our brain to stop thinking that anxiety is good and when we go exercise, it’s a good thing for a body not a enemy .

Yes u can get worse after excercise it's good if u only have anxiety occasionally but if u are sensitized like me it will make it worse as excercise is a form of stress any stress on an already stressed body is no good and it's also about your thoughts of the symptoms oh I can't breathe will activate the fight flight try just a slower pace of walking and if your not sensitized then look at your thoughts like excercise increase your heart rate and you breathe faster same symptoms like anxiety the brain picks up everything hope this helps

I’m 75 and ride my bike 8 to 10 miles every single day. I can leave the house feeling shaky and anxious and return feeling better every single time…You are breathing deeper when you are exercising and that does not cause adrenaline to rise…dopamine and serotonin are increased with exercise…🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, it is odd because I also thought that exercise was supposed to help🙃. Me personally sometimes after I treadmill I don't feel so much better.

Yes, I actually had a panic attack the other day after exercising. I don't like feeling my heart rate pick up even though it is a normal part of exercising. I also hadn’t drank much water before the work out so make sure you always stay hydrated...with gatorade and such.

Also don't push yourself if you feel you’re not in mood to exercise. I made the mistake of pushing myself while dehydrated and then had a hyperventilation attack with a pounding heart even though I knew that I was causing the anxiety while it was happening. I also pulled some back and shoulder muscles because I didn't do a warm up ahead of time. Dumb me. I literally had to lay on the bathroom floor and control my breathing and heart rate until they returned to normal.

I think it's so helpful realizing other people have these anxieties, because for the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me. Just know you're not alone.

Some of my tips for work out anxiety:

Only exercise when you feel like you have energy and try your best to listen to what your body is telling you. Don't put unnecessary strain on your body if you’re already stressed etc. Try doing calmer stretching exercise and deep peaceful breathing. Listen to binaural music on YouTube and zen out.  Drink plenty of water. Try to work on fluid movements that are not overly fast or strenuous on difficult days.

Finally, be kind to yourself and know it's okay to stop exercising if you start feeling weird. I really hope something I said helps. :) 👍 Best of luck.
