Am I being a wimp as I really don't want to have it done so after Any advice please....I don't have a problem with going to the dentist and I go for check ups and will have a filling no problem I've had 2 teeth out also with no problem but I'm scared to have root canal!
So I'm just after some advice about root canal surgery.
Would u rather have root canal or have tooth out?
Is it painful afterwards?
Are there any health risks involved?

Hi staceyn83, You always want to go with saving your teeth and root canal
is one of the ways you can do this. I worked as a Medical Asst to a Dentist at
one time. I assisted him with many root canals and believe me, knowing about
the procedure made me comfortable in saving the teeth. It is just another procedure
nothing more, nothing less than having a cavity filled or a tooth extracted.
Modern technology keeps the patient comfortable at all times. There may be some
tenderness afterwards but no more than having a tooth pulled.
Follow post instructions and you will be okay. No matter what we have done in life,
a lot is about how we perceive the after effects. Think positive, don't dwell on the
issue and you will be okay. You will heal nicely as well as have a nice smile to boot

Poor oral health can cause heart issues, strokes etc.. We must weigh the benefits
against the ill effects. There will always be risks and rewards among procedures
and surgeries we go through. Before having anything done, talk with your
specialist regarding your concerns. The choice is then up to you. My best xx
Root canal takes a long time and is boring and tedious. Most people tend to be nervous about it and dislike it. The fact is, though, that there is no pain. You just have to keep your mouth open for a long time. Afterwards you might feel a little tired. As Agora says, you will have saved a tooth. It is definately worth having if the dentist recommends it.
It it takes that long, you are going to an old fashioned ill equipped dentist. My dentist in France has all the latest 'tech' and now such procedures are nothing to fear at all.
Hi staceyn83Definitely a root canal. I'm a wimp but believe me Ive had 4 root canals over last couple of years and can honestly say I never felt a thing while having it done. Yes it ached a little when numbness wore off. Nothing a couple of painkillers won't fix. But like I said I'm a wimp 👍
I have had 2 done and though they weren't pleasant they were nowhere near as bad as I thought they would be.
It's well worth it to save a tooth though, so grit your teeth (not literally) and go.
Not to worry. I, too,have had several without any pain at all and less rehab than having a tooth pulled. No jaw swelling or anything like that. The dentist, if single root, or orthodontist, if multiple roots, will make sure yo are comfortable during the procedure. It can take about an hours or so depending on the number of roots. 🦷

So strange to come across your post as I just had a root canal yesterday.
Through the procedure I did have occasional discomfort when the dentist got near the root. I would signal her and she then administered more novocaine.
Pain after was my mouth and jaw being sore. I took ibuprofen and did some warm salt rinses.
This am I woke up feeling 100%.

That they have the best of interest be assured can validate that it is no different than having a tooth out or cavity filling some tenderness but being made comfortable and the assurance of the practitioner any questions answered
I am the world's biggest wimp when it comes to going to the dentist but I have had several sessions of root canal work done, and it really isn't, or shouldn't be, any big deal with a good dentist and modern local dental anaesthetics, with modern dental procedures. My last one was all over in a few minutes and I had to ask if she had done it... while I remember years ago the whole thing being lengthy and quite unpleasant. Go ahead with it. Extractions are far worse and when the tooth breaks up it could be far worse.
I have had loads of them and I was a nervous patient in the past. You don't feel a thing. To be honest, I would rather have root canals than a routine scale and polish which can be uncomfortable ! Can't remember having any pain after a root canal filling. All the best.
Hi there, Please forget any worries you may have of root canal treatment, many people will tell you that it is not a nice experience. In many ways a bit like giving birth, you only ever hear of the horror stories. Whoever told you there were links between root canal and breast cancer are speaking out of their backsides. Put all such suggestions out of sight and mind, have your treatment - a good dentist will ensure you have sufficient pain relief for your session. Look forward to a bright smile.
Hello Staceyn83, I have had a root canal and a tooth extracted and from my experience the root canal was much less painful especially if you have a good doctor. My tooth extraction left me with my jaw dislocated because they couldn't get the tooth out. 😫 I would always opt for a root canal if possible.
Because of anxiety I waited too long to go to the dentist. Now I needed some root canals & caps done, take it from an anxiety filled grown man, root canals sound scary but there is nothing to fear.
in fact , while in the dentist chair I fell asleep !! You will be fine !!
Thank you everyone for your advice....I'm not even sure why I'm worried....well I am over thinking the stuff I've read and it's the health risks of what they say about links to root canal and certain cancer I just need to stop reading crap that I don't even know if it's true or not I'm going to have to put my grown up pants on lol I do have a lovely very calming dentist I'm just being a wimp and worrying....its close to the front that's why I don't want it out over wise I would of said take it out lol I really appreciate all your advice on this....😃
I’ve had 5 rootcanals… if you have any pain in the tooth or jaw- relief comes so fast with the root canal! I always have gotten so many shots before hand that I never felt a thing. It’s a piece of cake- you’ll do fine!
Hurts more afterwards but not unbearable. Had a few done myself and on a pain scale give it moderate pian
I know how worried you are about the root canal because I overcame the same situation a year ago. A year ago, I got a severe toothache and found pus coming from a tooth. I got upset and immediately consulted an emergency dentist, who suggested an emergency root canal(emergency-dental-365.com/pr.... I didn't have enough time to think because it was urgent and frighteningly close, so I went along with his decision and requested local anesthesia because the dentist assured me it would be a painful procedure. But, thanks to the local anesthesia, I didn't feel any pain during the process, despite feeling slight pressure on my teeth. Pain is normal for two to three days after the procedure; for some people, it may last a week. If you still feel pain or swelling after a week, you should consult a dentist to determine what it is. It is not a horrible treatment; if you are concerned about the pain, you can request a local anesthetic from your dentist.
