I am no expert in dogs but I wonder if she could be preparing herself for what will eventually happen to Bella. My 1st dog, Rex, who was a jack russell, died over a year ago and he was 15. I wasn't living at home when this happened but I think I remember hearing that my parents other dog who was about 3 at the time began not sleeping in the same bed Rex for a few weeks or months before died. I will have to ask my parents about that as I could be remembering wrong. It might be a completely different situation in your case and a vet might help you understand better. Rex had arthritis. Is Bella healthy? I for my part was preparing myself for about 3 years before for his eventual death just at times telling myself well he is getting old now, he has had a good life but he may not be here for much longer and I acted normal around him though as I think they can sense these things. That helped me cope a little better when he did eventually go. I will ask my parent about it and post later.
definitely. My dog is 8 years now and getting grey and fat...she put on loads of weight after getting stayed and was so depressed ...I didn't get my other dog neutered and she gets broody and has a baby toy dog every now and again to lick. Shed made such a good foster mom for an orphaned puppy but they don't do that...they apparently leave them alone in kennels like other dogs!!!breaks my heart! But she's not going to get pregnant and I couldn't besr to see her spirit as crushed as my other dog was afterwards. They really need to invent a procedure that leaves their hormones intact. She loves her walks and food though but the rest of the time she always looks a bit deflated... Its also her looks so I try to never treat her like a sad old lady even though she seems that way and always treat her like a silly puppy instead. If she doesn't know she's old I'm not going to be the one to burst her bubble. My neighbours dog who's an arthritic old wreck always perks up when you talk to him like a puppy too he tries to jump about and everything its too adorable.
My girl is 9 now, but people don't believe it cos she looks as young as ever and runs fast. I've always had a dog, but somehow am more attached to Rosie than to any others I've had in the past.
A neighbour of mine had a dog who still liked to chase a ball thrown for him when he was very old, lovely to see. Rosie did not put on weight after spying, but she's a Collie. Maybe other breeds are more prone to it
Living in the countrysidewe really had to get her speyed.
Ah yes! When we got her first I lived in the countryside with my boyfriends dog..she had gone missing and he didn't care which is when I realised he was a total...bleep. But I got his dog back and pregnant...so I raised her babies for three months.. In that time a lady came by with a boot full of puppies either ribs sticking out...I really didn't want one but the pregnant mom let her have her dinner and she never did that!! So I thought if the regnant dog is being so kind to her I have to save one from this crazy lady. Then my boyfs dog had her babies and as they ere growing up we let them out into the field along with poppy..poppy was obviously a lot older than she looked...she got pregnant then..so when the pups were raised we gave them to a charity and my boyfriend suddenly wanted his dog back. I moved out as I had been tryinto when his dog had the pups and we had to stay to raise them... So we left to stay with my mom...I was fattening poppy up and she was getting nicely rounded out...then a little bit of a tummy but I thought well shes not used to eating she's getting bloated like a puppy would cos she's catching up on food she missed as a baby. But then we realised when her teats statrted to show. Oh oh. She had 8 pups behind my moms sofa in her tint flat where me and my two kids were jammed in...then it took a long time to find anywhere in the country that would take a woman with a dog...so I ended up moving to the middle of nowhere village...where I picked UP another two dogs in similar circumstances cos im a sucker...and three cats... Lol! OK I need to stop talking about dogs and get thus floor scrubbed!! That is the one thing I would change about dogs their damn furry hooverings! Lol!
Oh, I just loved hearing about all those animals. Apologies just seen, was cooking and having dinner. I too would have taken them all on. My husband loves our dog, but would not be pleased to have loads of animals in the house.
Our one dog gets hairs everywhere. Ah, your stories really were great, thanks
Is it a hot spell? Is the older dog giving a little grumpy growl to make the other go away? Maybe she's not feeling so good and doesn't want to be squashed. Have you squeezed her legs down to find any painful parts that she might be protecting. My cats stayed so far away from my cat with a broken pelvis when he wasn't well I was quiet surprised. Seemed a little mean. And i took him in bed with me. They always curled up together before this and now the cat that wasn't well sleeps with me and the others sleep apart. My dogs only don't slewp together when one is feeling unwell or its hot for them. If they're curled up its not heat but if one or other is spread out it could be heat.
Your welcome Daniellesparkles I talked to my parents and they said their dog started it in the months leading up to Rex's death and more so in the days leading up to it.
