Hi all!! I have recently dealt with a bout of health anxiety that spreads from one disease to the other. Recently I’ve been on an als scare since about the end of October. First I thought it was my arms and hands as my hand was stiff. I’ve now realized my tongue is twitching frequently. Obviously, when you stick your tongue out it’s going to twitch. But when mine is at rest it is twitching which worries me. Has anyone else ever had this with a combination of hypersalivation? I definitely have globus and know that can be caused by stress. The twitching really worries me and I’ve read too much about als. I feel like I’m slurring my words and my voice is definitely getting tired

Tongue twitcher here
Hi Cm22, it is best to have a doctor address it. xx
Doctor said “safe to say it’s not als” I guess I only slur my words when I’m really focusing on it. It’s mainly the tongue twitching that worries me
Cm22 it sounds like you already saw your doctor? That's good. Did he say
anxiety could allow this to happen? Anxiety symptoms present in different ways
for different people. I hope you get the reassurance you are looking for. xx
My “diseases” seem to change everyday so he did a brief “neurological exam” and everything was fine. Just weird having twitches! Not used to them on the tongue
Yep every tongue twitches at ready and when flexed some people s more than others, finger twitch arms legs every muscle does ,,,,but ya can get caught up with worry ,try to get on with life ,if it was any thing bad you would know about it ,,,take a risk it's just normal and enjoy your life ,this looking for every jump or bump is a habit ,if your honest you will see a pattern ,,,,forget it and live mate
I had all these symptoms (still have the twitching now a year later) and in the end I found out I have b12 deficiency, it’s quite common, since having it I know lots of others that have it too. My anxiety definitely makes twitches and other symptoms worse but since having the b12 injections everything is slowly getting better so maybe worth a check! I was the same and thought ALS for a long time but it’s very unlikely and if you had ALS you would rapidly go downhill. I found a girl on YouTube who suffers with anxiety, ALS worrying and twitching too, she uploads videos talking about, always makes me feel better when my anxiety is bad. Her name is ‘cherelle thinks’ have a look
Thank you for the response! I’ve been taking b12 recently but I’m taking slow release b12 and may try a regular one once I’m done with this batch. I have a neurology appointment in March but my therapist suggest I cancel it today as I’m only feeding to my anxiety
Ah ok that’s good! I was taking the tablets too but doctor told me they weren’t enough and I needed injections as my body wouldn’t absorb any of the tablets Or any b12 from food., that’s why I was so deficient and having neuro symptoms. It’s only a simple blood test, worth asking doctor for it x
Look up BFS or Benign Fasciculation Syndrome. This actually became a thing because when the internet took off and people looked up twitching first thing to show up was ALS and doctors/forums everyone started thinking they had ALS. I should know. I was one of em. You don't think you have ALS. You start showing REAL signs of trouble. Bulbar onset relates to Tongue twitching and it is rapid after onset. Take it from me. I had to learn the hard way that the mind can manifest all kinds of diseases.
Thanks for the words, Kev2867. Do you have als or you dealt with the tongue twitching? I have dealt with bouts of HA all year for sure with thinking I had various types of cancer. I even thought I had covid after testing negative multiple times. I guess the thing that really worries me is the twitching and the tightness in the throat that makes it feel like I can’t get words out fully because I can’t project my voice. I just need to understand that this is globus and that I’m okay
True story . A friend of mine almost crashed his car checking his tongue because he kept looking in the rear view mirror to check for twitches on his tongue. Almost rear ended someone. I only had twitches in the legs BTW.. No I don't have ALS..Cancer..MS..or a lot of the other diseases that have stricken me in my mind over the years. I did however end up with Graves Disease which is hyperthyroidism so it wasn't ALL in my head. However the fatal diseases that affect somatics like you and I hasn't happened yet LOL. I REALLY believed I had ALS way back when so I know what your mind is doing to you. Want some advice? Go live your life and do stuff. Sitting around staring at your tongue waiting for it to twitch isn't all that productive LOL

I need to start living! Just having a hard time when my tongue twitches and my throat seems swollen/full and increased saliva
Woke up on Wednesday with a feeling of a full throat and thick saliva and a stuffed nose.Sadly I read of a lady having this same thing and was diagnosed with bulbar als. The excess saliva seems like
It’s affecting my speech but still not necessarily slurring words. Or not that I have been told. Twitching on my tongue has slowed down a little
