Hi all! I’m a nurse that has been working in a covid unit for the past 9 months in Canada. I am absolutely drained. We just entered another 28 day stay at home order and lockdown and my anxiety is absolutely through the roof. On my days off I sleep the majority of the day and I am edgy with my family. My boyfriend was playing music in the basement tonight and the Noise almost caused me to breakdown. Any other nurses or front line workers out there feeling on the cusp of a breakdown?

Hello
I am not a Nurse and I am in the UK but I see what you are all going through and what you are doing where ever we live
I cannot give any advice but had to answer your post and hope someone will have some words of wisdom to help you but also I wanted to say Thank You to you and all the Nurses and Doctors and Everyone that is doing such a fantastic job even though I know it is affecting you by doing so , we owe you so much and so much respect
I hope you get the support you deserve x
Thank you so much! Like I said in my comment below, knowing you have a community of support helps drastically. ❤️.
Hi Hayls, i'm not a nurse either unfortunately, but as someone who's anxiety stemmed from complex p-tsd (c-ptsd) I would suggest you look in that direction for insight and ways to heal and deal with it.
I can only imagine what you and other frontline workers are going through and how difficult and emotionally draining and anxiety producing it must be. Even with a vaccine program underway we are still a long way from this all being over and the toll from it has to be devastating.
My wife and I routinely mention how you frontline workers are probably suffering or will suffer from the trauma and have PTSD or C-PTSD, it is only to be expected.
My heart goes out to you and thanks so much for your service.
I am not a nurse and can't completely know what you have gone thru. I am so sorry you are going thru this and know that anxiety can just attach itself to you and is hard to get rid of. Some things that help a lot are taking magnesium and Ginseng. Magnesium malate or glycinate is best, and ginseng helps a lot w both anxiety and depression, they calm the mind body and spirit and get rid of sticky negative thoughts the loop around in the mind. Also, getting outside, laying on the grass to get grounded and breathe in fresh air, looking at stars, these things help a lot too. Hoping these help you too. Breathe in deep and let our anxiety with each breath. Pray for a peaceful spirit and wisdom. <3
I am a long retired nurse. I only know how demanding hospital based nursing is during normal circumstances. Medicine floors are hard enough without Covid-19 added to the mix. You have my empathy.
I am a believer in the old saying “If you watch your pennies your dollars will take care of themselves.” I adapt it: If you make healthy little baby steps the bigger problematic ones will begin to take care of themselves.
If silence is golden after getting off work purchase one of those noise reducing head set/pieces. Are you a member of a professional Nurse Organization? They may have a local chapter that meets online for support.
I myself found Alexander Instructors very helpful. They are on Zoom at this time. The little steps of eating well, doing some form of exercise that suits your taste, setting aside whatever time you can for a hobby. A little dabbling in paint or something or another, whatever small steps you can muster.
Make use of counseling if need be. It will save you money in the long run. It is said it reduces health related medical problems. Many little baby steps will all add up & help you to endure this absolute ordeal. You are on the frontline fighting a war, a Covid war, an invisible but very real enemy. Our hats are off to you. God Bless.
Now I have to practice what I preach, we just had an earthquake. Signing off!
